An 85-year-old woman is in a coma after being viciously mauled and nearly killed by her neighbors’ pit bull terriers, in her own yard, in Southern Russia.

Alarmed by her screams, another neighbor called the police. When the officers arrived, the two raging animals turned on them.

“One of the officers blew his whistle,” said Krasnodar police deputy press attaché Maria Pirogova. “The dog dropped the victim and attacked the policeman, badly injuring his arm. The officers had no other option, but to shoot both animals dead.”

By that time, the woman was unconscious. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital.

“The patient was in shock upon arrival,” said a deputy chief doctor of Krasnodar city hospital. “We had to perform an operation immediately, amputating her arms.”

So where is the obligatory pit and baby picture, telling us they are not dangerous. They certainly are not the only dog that cause problems but they currently account for 50% of all dog related injuries and deaths.

I just asked my wife about this. She is a lawyer here in Krasnodar. She said the case happened last year, and the court hearings were in the courthouse where she works.

Had a scary experience today. I was a pit bull’s whim away from being the subject of one of Chet 99’s posts.

Walking up to my car at shopping center parking lot and a pit bull popped his head out the window of the car next to me. He was inches away from me. He must have sensed my fear. I immediately walked away.
