Anyone else spending Christmas Eve alone?
Christmas Eve 2010 | Skooz

Posted on 12/24/2010 5:31:05 PM PST by Skooz

Just wondering if anyone else out there is spending the evening alone. Not necessarily a bad thing. I'm sipping a cappuccino and taking in "A Christmas Story" in the old man cave. I'll be with family tomorrow, but as of tonight, it's my faithful Boxer and me. And Ralphie.

Thank you, all, for the advice and the prayers!

I am planting my first church and the Lord has brought my first couple as members. Yay!!!

About three years ago a business I had failed and I ended up living in my car. I posted a prayer request for trussell’s prayer warriors at the time. The Lord heard their prayers. I ended up living in a cabin in the Arkansas hills, away from people and offline, where the Lord could show me some things about the Church and church planting.

He has restored! Now I have a small storefront shop in town and am starting two businesses. I don’t have much but I have a TON of encouragement from the Lord.

I am excited beyond belief! He’s doing something here in this Arkansas town. I can feel it. And He’s finally starting to use me. His timing is perfect.

Now I need healing for my body so I can have the energy to do what I need to do. I have fought exhaustion for years — low thyroid, mitral valve prolapse, apnea, and some other things, all of which cause lack of energy. And now stroke??? We do have our treasure in earthen vessels, don’t we!

So, yes, I could use your prayers. Pray for my tiny church, for health, for His supply, and that I would hear Him.

Bless you!

Our carpenter bees are really peaceful. Thanks for telling about the stingers. Thought they were flower-children types LOL!

They’re not mean—just territorial. We named our little guy Gregory (short for Gregory the Grouch.) He and the four dogs formed their own disconcerting little flock-pack-whatever.

Actually, the old camcorder came in handy for recording Gregory and a totally crazy mockingbird. The mocker sat on top of a very tall Italian cypress tree, jumping up and down, flapping its wings, and vocalizing so many different sounds that I recorded it for about 45 minutes (or a very long time, at any rate.) We are so blessed to have these delightful creatures!

Last night, Hubby and I watched "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Hogfather." We've been spending all our holidays "just us" for about 15 years now.

He is still in dancing-sugarplum land, but when he wakes up, I'm off the computer today.

It's snowing a bit, so we're going to have a white Christmas. It is our first one since we moved here in 2004 (Hubby) and 2005 (me -- someone had to stay home and pack all this stuff).

May you all, my dear friends, have a

Merry Christmas to you!

I’m having coffee with the cats, trying to explain this episode of “The Outer Limits” to them.

Lucky you.....I had to spend the annual Christmas eve at one sister and her husband's house. He is a real PIA and I always dread going there.

Fortunately their two grown kids and their kids were out of town so it cut down on the people but he did have his Uncle Frankie, his cousin and her husband and their young dau. in from New Jersey.

The cousin's husband, Evan, owns his own restaurant in Princeton, NJ and he was a super nice guy and his wife was equally charming. As for Uncle Frankie, he was old, quiet and just sat there drinking glass after glass of wine.....LOL!

I arrived at about 6:30 p.m. only to find my sister just starting to cook with the bro-in-law_ standing in the freezing cold on the back deck cooking on the BBQ. It seems the knucklehead earlier in the day was replacing the wall plate on an electricl outlet or light switch, without turning off the circuit breaker and accidentally made the connection between the wires with his screwdriver thus blowing out the power in their house........

Couple things wrong with that story! First he should have turned the circuit breaker off so he's lucky he didn't get electrocuted. Second of all, it shouldn't have blown all the power in the house, it should have just caused that one circuit breaker to trip. Since it didn't, that tells me he has a major electrical problem with his circuit box. It certainly wouldn't surprise me if he at one time he may have tried to rewire it himself.

Anyway, that caused his sump pump to shut off too and while he was trying to fix the circuit box, the sump filled up and started to flood the basement...........I guess it didn't overflow too bad before he got the power restored.

His antics kinda remind me of Chevy Chase in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation only my BIL isn't funny, he becomes an angry sourpus..........

His typical fare begins with breaded cod, then smelt and then the main course of lasagna, linguini and all that crap. Having filled my hungry stomach with the smelt and cod, 10:00 p.m. came around and we hadn't even started on the main meal. I then feigned not feeling good and went home..........

Today it's off to the other sister and her family's house and that will be a fun time.........even more so because the other sister and knucklehead won't be able to make it.

Merry Christmas!

"In this world, where the game is played with loaded dice, a man must have a temper of iron, with armor proof to the blows of fate, and weapons to make his way against men. Life is one long battle we have to fight at every step; and Voltaire very rightly says that if we succeed, it is at the point of a sword, and that we die with the weapon in our hand."

- Arthur Schopenhauer, Counsels and Maxims, 1851

For those who may be alone this Christmas, I urge you to take heart.

Never forget what one man, John Rambo, can do solo, with surprise and audacity, when he has had enough and his enemies are distracted by a temporary concentration upon a spirit of peace on Earth.

Also, when you get so depressed you think nobody cares whether you live or die, just miss a couple of car payments and discover no man or woman is truly alone.

I think it was the great thinker Linus who once told Charlie Brown, "There is no problem so big that it cannot be run away from."

Fear not.

When you have a AR-15 in your hands, you are never alone without hope.

Pastor Books: You are in my prayers.

Skooz: I spent last night alone, too — with Ralphie and the original “Miracle on 34th Street” (and the occasional pity party). ... My daughter and grandson did stop in for a few minutes to put some things in my car for today. ... I’m praying the body cooperates so I can go to my mom’s in a few hours; plans are to stop at my brother’s on the way home to have dinner with them. (I usually spend Christmas Eve with them, but since my move, I knew if I drove the one-hour round trip to their place last night, that I wouldn’t have the stamina to drive the two-hour round trip to mom’s today. This way I can stop at my brother’s half way home from my mom’s, so it’ll break up the drive time on the way home. At least I’m hoping that’ll work out.) ;)

For the sake of ‘family harmony’, they did -nothing-.

Since he was family and out of respect we Texans would have hung him on his own property.

We would even back-hoe a ditch for him.

Pastor:
Congratulations on climbing the mountain from the desert floor.

Now you can look at the valley meadows and visit them from your rock and the house built on it. A spiritual metaphor.

A further congratulations on your founding of a church that will serve brothers and sisters and be that lighthouse for lost souls who can come in finding warmth by the fire and fellowship with friends in God’s family.

Two businesses? That’s terrific and a wonderful blessing as well.

May God bless you further and your cup be found overflowing. Your best problem is trying to figure out how you are going to manage “all - this...stuff”. LOL You’ll get the joke later.

Have a Merry Christmas.
