My dad was trained by a blue jay about four years ago. He comes to sit on Dad’s hand to eat peanuts. A few of Blue Jay’s friends will share the wealth on the ground, but only the one sits on Dad’s hand to eat. He picks up one nut, shakes it, looks at Dad, picks up another, shakes it, looks...until he picks the one he wants and flies away.
I hope this little fellow lives forever!
We had a hummingbird that used to guard the backyard w/the dogs. When the dogs barked, he’d face the direction the dogs pointed at and screamed his beautiful little head off. He thought a coworker was a flower and kept trying to land on her head. Blessings galore!
We looked at each other for a few seconds, then I told it, "Well, go on! Take it, I don't want it!" The bird made a swift dive forward, grabbed the crust and took off. I was laughing my head off (and getting very odd looks from patrons entering and exiting the hardware store).
I used to have a blue jay lunch buddy when I lived in California. I'd take lunch out by my bike in the parking lot and share whatever I was having with him.
