It might be theoretically faster, but not in practice.

I think it might depend on the network demand in your area and bandwidth sharing taking place at any given time. I have experienced both very high speeds on AT&T and abysmally slow depending on location and time of day.

Could very well be. Unfortunately, in our area it is a common occurrence.
