**VANITY** PLEASE RECOMMEND FUN .223 RIFLE **VANITY**

I've been intrigued by the Appleseed Project and I would like to take part in some of their shooting events, as well as other recreational shooting events. Most events require 400-500 rounds for weekend participation. The ammo for my current rifles would cost nearly a dollar per round. I've done some checking at Cheaper than Dirt and ammo for .223 rifles would be only $250 or so, a much more manageable cost.

I would like to get FReeper recommendations for fun-to-shoot rifles in the .223/5.56 that would be suitable for the Appleseed Project and practical for training purposes.

Also, does anyone know of a carbine conversion kit for a S&W Model 622 pistol, .22LR? Something similar to this Beretta?

Apparently I missed some $90 VZ58 kits a couple years ago...

The M76, I paid the price before the Century came out and bought an early Ohio Rapid Fire build. For an AK they are very accurate especially if you can get the original designated marksman ammo. I dealer that is/was the commie sniper mod on www.AK-47.net saved me a case...

My first rifle/carbine was a Universal M1 carbine.

It’s a good shooter even if it is a Universal.
I still have it and its still original
Bought it for $125 new.

The nice thing about those prices is that you arent scared to try modifications.

I always make my mods reversible though.

Got the Hakeem and an Egyptian FN49, but I also am missing the Rasheed... and a VZ58. I have a straight stock and folder kits for the VZ58 along with spare mag/pouch sets, but never bought the receivers. Now you can get the rifle cheaper than the receivers...

My problem is I dont have the tools.
I bought one Romy kit ages ago for $99. It languished around for years because I didnt want to spring for a shop press.

I finally had a gunsmith built it for me for $200.

I still came out good on the deal. He did a sweet job.

Century used the Ohio rapid fire receiver?
Oh! yours is the ohio rapid fire milled receiver!
Who made the milled receiver century used?

Heck, they built them as inexpensively as I could have if had I done it myself with an Ohio rapid fire receiver.

I should grab one before they disappear

You know what kills me? The original M76 receiver was semi auto! Why did ATF make us destroy the originals and then create a new semi auto?

Its destruction of history for no reason.

Rasheeds are very rare.

You cant beat the size of the ejection port on all the arms you mentioned.

I think that is the long list of all the guns in the world besides the original swedish Lajungman that use that system.

Mosin-Nagant’s are fun. They scare the hell out of the neighbors.

Weird that you can buy them cheaper than the receivers now.

Some one must have made a bunch and then lost their butts on the investment and sold the remaining stock before closing the doors.

When those are depleted the prices will rise again.

Thanks for the tip. For some reason, when I hear Kel-Tec, I think of K-Tel Records. Sorry. I’ll look up the rifle. Others have recommended.

Ralph, here is Part 1 of the review I watched. This guy's reviews tend to be a bit long-winded, but he does a thorough job. If I didn't already have so much invested in AK variants, I would grab one of the little Kel-Tec carbines in a heartbeat.

I keep a couple extra MNs and extra ammo for that very reason.

I shot a .22 at the Appleseed, even though I have a mini-14. It’s theory & instruction that will serve you on any rifle.
