Researchers say the millions of sardines that were found floating dead in a Southern California marina this week tested positive for a powerful neurotoxin.v Domoic acid is often found in the stomach of fish that have been feeding on plankton during toxic algae blooms. Caron’s lab is working to determine if the poisoning was caused by a toxic algae bloom spotted off Redondo Beach on Wednesday.

Every tin they opened contained only dead sardines.

Scientists remain baffled.

Obama’s fault time to change the blame game. Lets all Blame the one in the Office of the president. For eight years America had to endure Bush’s fault.

Now it is time for america to hear the real fault for America’s demise since 2007 Democrats and Obama.

Here's a possible clue. None of the fish in the tins had heads or tails. Whatever toxin attacked them destroyed their heads and tails.

Also time to file suit against the makers of the tins. Something in the metal killed the poor, helpless sardines, who were often subjected to hatred by the other fish just becuase they were different. They were just starting to turn their little lives around.

Historically....

Oh, wait, they don't teach American History any more.

One of the stories of Indians helping Pilgrims was "to plant corn, you
dig a hole and drop in a cod (fish, not piece, btw), and then a
seed kernel, cover, etc.

I've seen old (as late as the 1930s, maybe) photos of fertilizer
companies drying fish for processing.

If you check out the ingredients on some plant food, it may list fish.

I don't think you understand. I don't have a problem with the fish as fertilizer. I have a problem with the TOXIN IN THE FISH making it's way into the food supply.

How long before they try to tie this to an oil company?

I agree with Rush, the Japanese earthquake will be tied to fracking in the Dakotas. And I believe the sardine kill will be linked to deep sea drilling in either Alaska or the Gulf of Mexico.

I had that thought as I hit "Post".

I was going to throw in a disclaiming along the lines of "Red Tide"
breaking down. After all, it does "go away" after a while.

I had never thought about it affecting fish, since I used to occasionally
harvest mussels while on vacation, and was cognizant of the blooms.

It must have been caused by global warming, like everything else.

Odd time of year for a Algae Bloom, but there is a powerplant cooling out flow just outside the breakwater.
