The average person in the United States creates 22 tons of carbon dioxide a year, according to statistics compiled by the United Nations. The world average is 6 tons per capita.

Actually Amy, my carbon footprint is much larger than that because I burn EVIL WOOD in my woodstove in the winter and I'm still burning it this Spring because of GLOBAL WARMING!!

My father lives in the Poconos and the Record notoriously gets “today’s date” wrong once or twice a year. The TV listings are usually fairly reliable though.

What's your carbon footprint?

As big as I can make it. If I don't use the resources, someone else will i.e; the filthy Commie Chinamen.

I have yet to read documented proof, either theoretical or empirical, that an increase in the carbon dioxide content of the earth’s atmosphere, such as reportedly has occured according to measurements of same, can be expected to cause an increase in the average overall temperature of that gaseous envelope.

A source of such, anyone???

Carbon dioxide is plant food. It is not a “pollutant”.

“What’s your carbon footprint?”

Very little, but Lefty-NIMBY-HOA queen doesn’t get as much from her local energy and other sewn-up, zoned, authorized, licensed, politically correct, environmentally decreed, approved business investments, either.

I wish Amy Leap would have published her email address. I would be asking her the same questions.

Is she living in a grass hut?

Is she walking, riding a bicycle, or taking ass transit instead of using a car? How much CO2 is she exhaling on average per day?

How can she reduce that amount?

Is she growing her own vegetables?

Does she use one or two sheets of TP every time she goes to the bathroom?

How much money does she make so 95% of it can be redistributed to Third World nations whom she has harmed for her past excess CO2 creation?

Do she buy all her clothes and other posessions pre-owned (used)?

Does she take a bath and wash her hair only once every two weeks?

Does she only use one light bulb during the dark hours and limit to only a 40 watt bulb for one hour a day?

Does she use a very small wood burning stove to cook all of her food on?

How much is she doing to lower her standard of living so she can feel good feeling as equal as the Turd Worlders in Africa or the other parts of the world?

I’m pretty sure she is exceeding her carbon footprint so that means I am going to have to become a control freak and start doing some regulatin’ and banning of certain activities she regularly indulges in like using that computer she used to write this insane article.

Then she needs to be fined heavily by me so I can be paid to do the job she’s not willing to do but certainly wants the Feds to do.

Okay Leftists! Please line up here to register yourself so I can help regulate and reduce your carbon footprint. Be sure that you sign below that you give up your Constitutional rights and freedoms to do as you please because there is a new carbon sheriff in town.

I will happily dictate to you how you should live your life for a fee. And if you violate even one teeny weeny rule I will fine you relentlessly and unmercifully, place you on stage to be accused by an audience for your sins against the environment, and re-educate on how to live as one with the nature goddess you worship so well.

If you need to go into debt heavily in order to live this life please do so because I must be paid well in order to do my part to help you.

All I can say.....Its not large enough !

Given my “druthers” I’d be tooling around in a Citation X to hit the races I’ve sent my flunky to in a 1M RV......

Seriously, in reality all of this “carbon footprint” nonsense is just that; nonsense. Throughout the 20th century America led the world in its “carbon footprint” but in return, the world got incredible leaps in industrial, mining and agricultural returns far outstripping that “cost” by improved efficiency. IOW, for equal amounts of “carbon cost” the American economy returned far more goods, services and individual benefits to the worldwide public than any other economy in the world.

And, despite crippling “hamstringing by various domestic and offsore hyenas, it still does.... >PS

even though it might mean replacing an appliance that is still working, the overall savings in energy cost with the new appliance will make the purchase worthwhile.

Well, not really. Any new appliance (or other new purchase) has a great deal of "embedded carbon" that was consumed in its manufacture and transportation.

While it may consume less energy on a daily basis, it takes a long time for the daily energy savings to "pay off" the embedded energy "debt."

You can actually calculate how long this will take. Even if you are an enviroweenie, the "greenest" thing to do is usually to keep using the old energy hog till it wears out.

Actually, if you heat with wood your carbon footprint for heating is zero, other than that for chopping, splitting and transporting the wood.

When you burn wood, you take carbon out of the wood and put it into the air. This carbon, however, came out of the air 10 or 30 years previously when the tree was growing. It's part of the carbon cycle, constantly going from plants to air and back. It doesn't change the total amount of carbon in the ecosystem at all and thus no carbon footprint. Properly calculated, anyway.

Carbon footprint is created by the burning of fossil fuels, which create a net increase of the carbon in the ecosystem and thus drive the CO2 in the air higher. That this occurs is a fact. Its effects over time are a matter for legitimate scientific debate.
