IMHO, all driven on polls. Before the past few weeks, it polled as helpful to him to be able to demonize his opponents with, the momentum lately has started moving against him so he decided to get ahead of it.

Correct. When I saw the polls last night, it was clear to me that Obama would have to release his birth certificate if at all possible. His legitimacy was beginning to suffer damage. The issue now becomes other information and documents and whether “natural born citizen” requires that both parents be citizens at the time of birth.
