Lizard in Restaurant Sold for $8

A big desert lizard wreaked havoc inside a restaurant in Saudi Arabia when it sneaked into the place before it was auctioned for around $8, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

Customers inside the restaurant in the central province of Ras ran out in panic when the lizard, weighing more than three kg, walked into the place, 'Al Riyadh' Arabic language daily said.

The lizard had managed to flee municipality cleaners who seized it at a nearby cemetery and headed for the restaurant, apparently attracted by the smell of food, the paper said.

“Customers fled the restaurant in panic before a Saudi man seized the lizard….an auction was later held for the lizard, which fetched SR30 ($8).”

Sounds like a typical day in Cancun Mexico. Its something you don’t see on the brochures but the place is crawling with them.

Why do they need to speculate whether the cleaners were attracted by the smell of food? Just ask them.

Is lizard Halal?

Technically, no. So you can't eat one. In theory, you could marry one, though.

Chupacabra.

I was on the side of a mountain cutting firewood with some Mexicans, and a love-sick elk bugled off in the distance. I shut down the chain saw, cocked my head and listened for a minute, and said: "Chupacabra", started up the chainsaw and kept working.

Them city boys couldn't wait to get off that mountain.

I looked it up; it is halal, and is said to taste good. That’s a mighty big one, too. The spiny tail desert lizard, and considered a delicacy. And, $8 for dinner ain’t bad.....

So, these people run away from a local native species that could easily be kicked out the door or simply stomped on?

They’ve never seen one before?
Is it venomous?

Is this a French colony?

Might be time to start a farm for assault lizards!

Well better get that oil price up again... just in case.. you never know... isn’t that how it works?

A lizard sneezes near an oil field and prices go up $10 a barrel?

Here’s an interesting Youtube about lizard preparation posted at a Muslim site. And yes, they said that it’s “halal.”

There was a mom and pop eatery in Cairo I frequented.

It was strategic to get a table away from the (open) roof beams so you didn’t have to worry about the pigeons crapping on your food.

Because defending your meal from the marauding felines took enough energy as it was...
