Justine Siegal was a pioneer long before she pitched batting practice to six major league teams in spring training this year. Two years ago she became the first woman to coach first base for a men's professional team, the Brockton (Mass.) Rox in the independent Canadian American Association. And she spent three seasons as an assistant baseball coach at Springfield (Mass.) College until resigning last year to pursue a doctorate.

If I owned a team, I wouldn't sign a woman just for the sake of signing a woman. But if I thought there was a woman that could help my team win, I'd go for it.
Maybe the Rangers could try out of a few for their bullpen, they couldn’t do any worse.
No women in MLB no way. I’m a women. It will ruin the game.
MLB? Not a chance in heckfire.
LBL? Lingerie Baseball League?
It was never about "equality." It was always about power.
double d league.
Could an MLB team sign a woman player tomorrow? Is there an MLB rule against doing so?
I’ll say the same thing here as I do about women playing “men’s” sports in general — if they can play at the required level without getting any preferential treatment, then I see no problem. Professional sports is supposed to be about who’s best, not about gender, skin color, etc.
To a large degree, baseball is one of the better team sports to allow women to play, because of the extremely limited amount of contact involved.
Team owners and managers had best take into account, however, any issues with facilities and road housing, along with team chemistry issues. Plus, avoiding “gender warriors”: batting .300 with 30 HRs and gold-glove level fielding isn’t worth it if she’s constantly suing her teammates or managers for perceived “harassment”.
No. No way.
I never liked baseball.. Heck a little duct tape over their mouth and they might make a good baseball player..
Yeah, but there’s no crying in baseball, so...
I love baseball. I am a woman. I never want to see a woman on the St. Louis Cardinals, it will completely ruin the sport for me.
Can’t there be some things that are left only to men, and some left only to women?
Let me get some popcorn. Heeeere we go again.
I remember watching the best hitters on the 1996 NCAA Division II champion women’s softball team from The College of New Jersey swinging hopelessly against the college’s men’s baseball team pitchers, and the men weren’t the best in the conference by any means.
I’m sure there is at least a few women who could turn in to Tony Gwynn type contact hitters in the MLB, but there are so many (male) utility players who can fill that role, what’s the point?
Not going to happen at the pro or even college level for players. Maybe from a coaching perspective but with all of the ex-players and career minor league coaches and managers I don’t see it happening on that score either.
Except as a freak show attraction or government “nudged” AA, not a chance.
ESPN really needs some competition. They do a lot of this PC crap.
