Don't let the word "canning" scare you. Canning beef is easy and I will walk you through it step-by-step. You'll be able to make good use of beef sales and not have to depend on a freezer to keep it in. Below are the things you'll need. I use a Mirro Pressure Canner and this recipe is for pints.

Thanks for that link! We’ve been reading about these a little bit. Have you used them yet? Have you talked to anyone that has? Let me know that goes!

Hot water bath canning is not safe for meats or low acid foods. Pressure canners will increase the heat and hold it to kill all the microbes.

A favorite in my neck of the woods was canned squirrels. I’ve know guys that would kill around 200 a season and can them up for the lean days.

I really think I have to get over the baggage of the past & get a pressure cooker & canner. I’ve heard that pressures cookers are great for cooking things fast.

When I finish school, I’d really like to get into suburban farming and self sustenance.

That’s why I never canned low acid foods or mea, just lots of jams, tomatoes and pickles.

Oh, if your friend is interested, we have tons of squirrels here, plus rabbits, one of who have gotten over my green fence and nested in the bale of sea grass that was stored in the center of my garden. Nothing like grabbing a baby bunny when you’re trying to spread mulch!!

There’s some local beef around here, but I don’t have that kind of freezer space, and just don’t eat beef often enough. I like to grill a steak now and then.

Hi ... my name is Justadumbblonde and I’m a canning junkie. When chicken leg quarters go on sale for 39 cents a pound, I buy them 75-100 lbs. at a time. There is no comparison between store-bought canned chicken, and the beautiful pieces of meat you have when you do it yourself. Soup, casseroles, sandwiches, pot pies ...

That’s a great article. I plan on canning quite a few jars of meat in the not to distant future. If nothing else, that will allow me to buy at today’s prices and save money as food increases in price.

This is wonderful! Thanks for posting. What are some of your recipes that use canned beef? No, you don’t have to post the recipe, just general things you make with it. Thanks again.

I used to can half-pints of diced meats, with a little bit of salt and the cooking liquid from when I pre-cooked them, then I’d use it by heating it up and pouring it over mashed or baked potatoes. Simple, but tasty.

Wow..there’s so many things..let’s see..naturally beef and noodles, hot beef sandwich, BBQ sandwich, burritoes, tacos, hash (tonights was with the beef, potatoes, onions and carrots), beef stew, meat for soups, use it on pizzas a lot, especially BBQ beef pizza..

One of the best things about canned beef is how fast a meal can be made!

I haven’t actually used them. They should be arriving in the mail tomorrow or the next day.

The order got processed very expediently. I was impressed.

I will try them for both hot water bath and pressure canning.

I will likely buy a bunch more. If we do get hyperinflation, or a SHTF or TEOTWAWKI situation, canning jar lids are simply not going to be found, IMO. I’d rather have a nice supply of these laid up.

The canning supplies with still then be useful when the disposable lids are no longer available.

Thank you! I’ve never used canned beef but now can see how easy and quick preparing a meal from it can be. What is great about canned beef is there are no worries about the freezer shutting off and ruining your stash. I’ve printed out the instructions and as a dedicated canner of jams and jellies am looking forward to trying something new and beneficial for my family.

I store mine in the boxes underneath the beds. The bedskirts hide them from view and I remember to checks them every once in a while when I vaccuum under the beds.

For some reason, the link won’t open for me. Can you repost the link in here?

Thanks!
