On the farm we had birds break their necks flying into our 3 season porch. Most were found dead underneath the window...Heard one loud bang one day and found a yellow wing flicker laying under the window...when I went to pick it up, its toes latched onto my finger and wouldn't let go. It had just knocked itself unconscious...i carried it around the yard for a few minutes than put it in the hollow of the old maple tree in the front yard. It laid there for a few minutes and then flew away...the larger the bird the more likely it is to survive crashing into a window...

We figured out it was usually after we cleaned the windows. soooooo, good excuse to not clean the storm windows...its saved many a birds life...A few of the birds I had to look up in a bird book.....

One of my Dad’s homes had half a dozen pheasants fly into the front room window almost every summer. The majority of them broke their necks. They became supper and dry fly fishing hooks.
