We’ve had 4 female Great Danes over the years and they are wonderful dogs.I would love to have another one.George makes me miss my girls.
I have two Weimaraners who weigh a total 12 stone (168 pounds)...
There is indeed a distinct resemblance between Weimaraners and Great Danes (size aside), especially with Danes who happen to be solid grey, and whose ears are left natural. Some Weimaraner authorities say that Weims are related to Great Danes, in addition to the more obvious German Shorthair Pointer, Vizsla, and Doberman kinships. Great Danes are not Danish, as the name seems to imply, but German.
Weimaraners, like George, they have an affinity for sofas.
Hey, ya better turn up that fireplace. They look cold!
Probably 1 of the Jap “inus” (i.e., “dogs”). Shiba, Akita, various all tend to look the same type. I’m actually not sure if they’re all supposed to be spitz-based or not.
“Great Danes are not Danish, as the name seems to imply, but German.”
Deutsche Dogge (ironically, Danish translation, I believe) - German Dog.
Germans never get credit for anything they do (or don’t, like whine and complain as American immigrants). “Danes” or Poodles, e.g.
“Pretty misleading camera angle.”
Agreed. But as much as I love big dogs..I would sure hate to have to feed him.

Feed him? I’d hate to clean up the yard.

*chuckle*
We had a Weimaraner when I was a kid. What a gentleman. He would sleep with his head against the fireplace screen and the top of his head would get heated to impossible temperatures. He would sometimes look loopy for a few minutes when he stood up. I still miss hunting with him 30 years later.
This is a misleading photo. It was taken with a wide-angle lens, and does not correctly show the relative size of the dog. The guy's knees look to be a little bigger than his head, which is highly doubtful, and his shoe appears to be as wide as his ears are apart. The dog is even closer to the camera and so would be magnified even more than the guy's knee and shoes are. The dog appears to be as big as a small horse, but small horses weigh much more than 250 lbs.
Love the teddy bear face, so cute...pity most of the Japanese breeds tend to be fairly one person oriented, and standoffish to anyone else.
Note that the strands in the rug going directly away from the camera are converging to the vanishing point pretty quickly. That picture too was taken with a wide-angle lens and therefore distorts the apparent size of things, compared to how they would look with your own eyes.
George is still pretty darned big,, no matter what kind of camera is used. He’s just a beauty.
