UPPER CHICHESTER — A stray dog was rescued from Marcus Hook Creek on Monday morning after a police officer pulled the canine out of water up to its neck.

According to an Upper Chichester police report, Locust Street resident Richard Plummer discovered a boxer in watery trouble when he went to investigate a whimpering sound emanating from the rear of his property.

As he was washing the shed in his backyard, Plummer chalked up the dog barks he heard to a neighborhood pet, but when the barks turned into cries, he knew something was wrong.

“He was standing in the creek. He was scared to death,” said Plummer, who owns a cat named Hazel. “He was shaking because he was freezing to death. I would call him and he would look at me with just this frightened look in his face.”

I’m surprised this (apparently) never was posted, but thought our fellow Freepers would appreciate a heartwarming DOGGIE PING to end their Monday.

“but when the barks turned into cries, he knew something was wrong. “

I had the same thought yesterday when my girlfriend’s 5 year-old nephew clamped a chip clip on the dog’s ear.

Did the dog bite him after being saved or is it a conservative?

Did he pull the dog out before or after he shot it.

I knew there would be a comment like this when I read the headline.

Look I know a lot of police officers and I can tell you none would ever shoot a dog unless necessary. Yes, there are a tiny amount of real jerks out there who do shoot. Maybe some of this is because they are poorly trained. Some of it is because of the lower standards that many cities have for police officers. This is brought on by affirmative action and political correctness. I know one K9 officer who really loves his dog. But there are 315 million Americans so you are gonna get a few rotten eggs. The problem is that any time it happens, the story gets out on the news and this forms people's opinions.

It is the unlawful and unjustified shooting of a dog, not the reporting of said shooting, that forms people’s opinions.

But the good cops deserve accolades when they do The Right Thing.

Yep- no matter how upbeat, there are those that have tom make it a negative.

Good for the cop. Great for the dog. I hope it gets a good home.

Nice looking boxer. And he does look like a Fred. Good job, and I hope he finds his owners or a good home.

Since I was on the other thread, I had to come here and give this particular officer the credit he is due. Kudos!

Poor dog! :( I hope that your girlfriend’s nephew was quickly taught a lesson for such behavior. A five year old is plenty old enough to know better.

Put that clip on the kid’s ear and he *will* come to know better.

Comon, dude, give a little ground when they behave like real policemen, okay?

When I told the kid he hurt the dog he started bawling.

Hopefully his parents gave him some correction. A five year old is old enough to KNOW when something is in pain and to understand when they hurt another—unless he is severely mentally deficient, in which case, he has no business being near other animals or people without CLOSE supervision.
