“Feds: Threat of Al Qaeda Terror Attack on 9/11”

By BRIAN ROSS (@brianross) , RHONDA SCHWARTZ and RICHARD ESPOSITO
Sept. 8, 2011

SNIPPET: “At least three individuals — one believed to be a U.S. citizen — entered the U.S. in August by air with the intent to launch a vehicle-borne attack against Washington D.C. or New York around the anniversary of 9-11, according to intelligence officials. As news of the information became public authorities began weighing whether to raise the national threat level.

The suspected terrorists are believed to have embarked on their journey to the U.S. from Afghanistan, according to one senior official taking a route that took them through at least one other country, possibly Iran.

One official added that at least two rental trucks — one from Penske and one from Budget — were being sought nationwide. The Budget GMC truck and the Penske GMC both were missing from locations in Kansas City, Missouri. It was not immediately known if that search was connected to the plot.”

“Truck Thefts Raise Awareness of Terror Threat”
Monica Evans, edited by Jason Vaughn
6:22 p.m. CDT, September 8, 2011

SNIPPET: “KANSAS CITY, Mo.— Kansas City, Missouri, Police went on alert after nine box-trucks were stolen from two different rental companies over the past week, and they say that this weekend’s 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks is giving them reason to be concerned.”

SNIPPET: “Police say they discovered that the stolen trucks were not intended for terrorist acts, but detectives say the thieves certainly had something illegal in mind.”

SNIPPET: “Two people have been arrested in connection to the thefts, and police say that more victims may be involved.

While police say the metro isn’t under a credible terroist threat, Michael Corwin, the commander of Homeland Security for the KCPD says he would like everyone to be on the look out for suspicious activity.

“If there is a backpack sitting some place where it normally wouldn’t be sitting, a box truck sitting some place, a van, whatever it may be, it’s about suspicious behavior,” said Corwin.”

“NYC on alert after ‘specific, credible’ threat of 9/11 car-bomb attack”
By LARRY CELONA

SNIPPET: “A “specific” and “credible” terror threat against New York and Washington, DC, was revealed last night — involving three men who entered the country last month from Pakistan and were instructed by al Qaeda to detonate a car bomb on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, law-enforcement sources told The Post. The information, which came from chatter picked up overseas by the CIA, said the attack would occur on the 10th, 11th or 12th, the sources said.”

SNIPPET: “NYPD officials have also been briefed in recent days about three men who were arrested in Ottawa with 2,000 pounds of stolen explosives, as well as two men captured in Berlin.

Cops are checking whether those arrests are connected to the possible anniversary attack, sources said.”

“Authorities hunting for three Al Qaeda thugs who may be planning strike on 9/11 anniversary: sources”

SNIPPET: “Officials are focused on three “seasoned” Al Qaeda operatives who most likely were personally dispatched by the organization’s new chief, sources told the Daily News.”

SNIPPET: “Because the three would-be terrorists have common names, cops have been unable to pinpoint their exact location, sources said.

The operatives are allegedly targeting transit hubs with car bombs - and not a chemical attack or so-called nuclear-laced “dirty bomb.”

Intel also suggests the Al Qaeda operatives were planning the strike for Sunday, the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.”
