My bank manager visited my shop yesterday with some alarming news. Somebody in England used my business debit card for a series of purchases. No biggie. Just claim fraud and get my money back.
Not so fast. Turns out that US businesses are on a card check system for which I needed to sign up in order to have a secure code. Who knew?
Now I find I have no recourse for the fraud perpetrated against me. The merchant cannot be required to give me information about the purchaser who stole my identity because I was not registered for a secure code. The perpetrator gets off scott free.
Now isn't that an amazing bit of larceny? It remains to be seen if I will suffer the same fate with a group of charges made on my card in Europe. Will keep in touch.
I’m sure the Mafia has an “after the fact” surety service of some kind that would provide you satisfaction, if not the return of your money.
Thought about it. An international cartel of knee cappers working for the business community as a sort of super police force should do the trick.
Seriously, folks. The credit card companies are not responsible for insuring that a business debit card transaction is by a valid user. Thois is not just buyer beware. It is katie bar the door open warfare against the business community.
