LAS VEGAS (CBS Sports.com) – IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon has been seriously injured in a massive 15-car wreck has sent cars flying through the air early in Sunday’s Las Vegas Indy 300.
Paul Tracy, who was involved in the wreck, said a team of doctors were working on Wheldon, but there was no word of his injuries. A helicopter lifted off from the speedway, but there was no indication if Wheldon was onboard.
Pippa Mann also appeared to be shaky as she was helped to an ambulance.
The wreck coming out of Turn 2 on the 12th lap left Townsend Bell upside down, smoldering cars strewn all over the track and debris nearly halfway up the straightaway of the 1.5-mile oval.
Wheldon was in line to win $5 million had he won the race.
I saw it. Hope Dan Wheldon is ok. Doesn’t look good.
Been watching, they now say that Wheldon WAS on the helicopter, no other info coming out. His car was flat, when they took it off the track.
Channel surfing and came upon this race and they said it had been black flagged at that point for an hour and 15 minutes. Sooo I Just went on Utube and watched a slow motion from above. Oh My!
As bad a wreck as I’ve ever seen.

Saw the replays of wreck. Weldon and at least one other were airborne. Very nasty.
Internet ripe with the worst possible news about Dan Wheldon, his condition is still officially unkown-unconfirmed.

Prayers.................ABC just filling air time until some word about race and most importantly the conditions of all drivers, Dan Wheldon being the most worried about...

Just announced he’s dead.
Dan has been lost. RIP. Prayers for his family and friends.
I saw some speed channel discussion yesterday and they talked about the danger of this field size and this track. I haven’t seen a list of everyone involved, but it seems that Weldon is the only serious injury at this point.
Just watching ABC.....they announced that Dan has died.
Very sad.
His wife, kids, and sister were at the hospital.
Prayers needed for those left behind.
