ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Former Norte Dame Coach Bob Davie has been hired to replace Mike Locksley as UNM’s Head Football Coach.

Wonder how much this contract is going to cost the UNM (i.e. NM Taxpayers)? But the current coach who was fired recently had but two wins in two years. UNM won its third game in three years last week against UNLV. So the program has nowhere to go but up.

Where is this “Norte Dame” school of which you speak?

I think it is somewhere in the Midwest, not sure though because I’ve never been there.

Not sure if he’s who we really need though. Seems he didn’t have that great of a record at Notre Dame and he’s not even been coaching since he’s on ESPN....

I think after last week and the way he’s rallied the team they should have given Barlow a chance. Plus he wouldn’t be nearly so expensive.

Of course I’m no expert and maybe this guy will be good. I just feel so sorry for the team, those poor guys have been through hell. How hard must it be to go practice every week when you just keep losing? That’s why I was so excited that they won last week!

This is a good hire for our beloved Lobos. I think Davie will bring back that hard nosed, chip on the shoulder attitude that Rocky Long brought. Davie has stated he wants to bring a a new tradition to Lobo Football. He wants the kickoff team to be made up of New Mexico kids. He and R.C Slocum did this at Texas A&M, they had the kickoff team made up of all walk-ons. The Aggies were the best at kickoff coverage for the 6 years they did this. Davie will bring this program up to the level it deserves to be. Now lets see if the “Damn fans” will respond in kind.

WE ARE NEW MEXICO!!!!!!!!

There is no way in hell Krebs would have gotten away with making Barlow the Head Coach. Barlow is part of the Locksley debacle. Hiring him would have spelled the end for UNM football. Locksley was the tumor that had to be cut out, now we need to clean the wound by getting rid of the rest of his staff. I finaly have hope for this program. The last 3 years have been brutal.

I had looked at it differently than you did, thanks for the input. I didn’t even consider about them needing to get rid of all the Locksley team of coaches.

I do hope this guy can turn the team around. I don’t know how those guys even showed up to play and practice the last 3 years. I’d have been tempted to give up.
