Tryin’ to convince Mrs Bob?
I own a Kymco Agility 125. I have a 30 mile round trip commute, and I drive on average 45-50 MPH. My MPG runs around 60-70 MPG
I had a 125cc bike when I was young and it qas quite adequate for noodling around town. Lots of fun. I think I was getting about 65 to 70 miles per gallon. Bikes are more efficient these days so 8- mph might be reasonable.
Most bikers don’t ever come close to having an accident.
1. If, however, you buy anything above 900cc, your accident rate goes up.Not enough tire on the road to control the bike?
2. If you do not take motorcycle instruction your accident rate goes up dramatically.
3. If you have had a major car accident in the last five years, don’t buy a bike. You are not a good enough driver to operate one.
That is the message I got from looking at relatively raw safety data as well as comments by others.
how do you like it? I’ve looked at some Kymcos...seems decent. Taiwanese, right?
is yours reliable?
It depends. How much do you value your life?
Scooters are really popular in Florida.
We recently had a news video of a small rice burner scooter being “T” boned at a traffic light. He looked like the old county fair expo of the man fired from a cannon as he traveled up, up and away without his beautiful ballon! It was deemed too bloody for TV and pulled after only one telecast.
When you get down into the sub-100cc range, it starts getting harder to state a fixed operating cost, because the weight of the rider starts becoming a significant factor.
not enough to quit riding 2 wheels. I have for 30 years.
Not one in Texas, we had one but then it got put on the ballot and voters said, "If they are dumb enough to ride without one, let 'em."
I only need it to top out at 45 MPH.
surprised there’s no “donorcycle” driveby comment yet!
Not yet
I have a Honda Spree and I have to pay for tabs every year in MN every Feb. Insurance is super cheap though. If you ride with Progressive, you’ll get super-discounted car insurance too.
Maybe. Or not. Downhill with a tailwind, sure. Uphill with a headwind, maybe not.
1. may states don’t have graduated licenses for people meaning a kid with a way to get a loan or has rich folks can go buy a 130 HP cycle (many 600cc bikes can make that HP now days) and go nuts on their 1st steet bike.
2. I would not dispute # 2.
3. # 3 might be true if the accident in question was caused by said operator. people on cycles tend to be more careful on them than in their cars because the outcome will be much different in a cycle accident regardless of fault.
age is a factor...under 21 or so and nothing really matters because your invincible.
how many CC ? IIRC, the Spree were all 50cc.
yes, scooters still require license and tabs, just not cycle rates and cycle tabs.
hopefully you told the DMV it was a 49cc and got moped plates.
Maybe, but add 3 points for every mile of fun.
cool.
old Cushman?
preparing for next spring...in the likelyhood
gas is way up and job is way down.
Kymco 125s and 250s get very good gas mileage. However, if you want something that is economical and will get you to work and around town, try a Honda Rebel 250CC. It is rated at 84 MPG but I get over 100 MPG with mine. Cost for a new Rebel is about 4100 bucks, however you can find them used for a lot less. Saddle bags can be had from Walmart for about 60 bucks and they work great.
