New disinfection technique could revolutionize hospital room cleaning (Bedbugs?)
Queen's University ^ | December 9, 2011

A Queen’s University infectious disease expert has collaborated in the development of a disinfection system that may change the way hospital rooms all over the world are cleaned as well as stop bed bug outbreaks in hotels and apartments.

>

The new technology involves pumping a Medizone-specific ozone and hydrogen peroxide vapour gas mixture into a room to completely sterilize everything – including floors, walls, drapes, mattresses, chairs and other surfaces. It is far more effective in killing bacteria than wiping down a room.

Dr. Zoutman says the technique is similar to what we now know Mother Nature uses to kill bacteria in humans. When an antibody attacks a germ, it generates ozone and a minute amount of hydrogen peroxide producing a new highly reactive compound that is profoundly lethal against bacteria, viruses and mold.

Darned good stuff, hydrogen peroxide. Indispensible. Pour some in your favorite search engine and watch all sorts of clever apps for it bubble up!

You bet...after all what could possibly go wrong?

Executing this particularly process ain’t ever going to happen in a functioning hospital or hotel

The use of something similar was mentioned during the Anthrax scares and investigations.

For years we have been using ozone to clean sports gear.

A better idea is to have a robot irradiate a hospital, one wing at a time. Patients would have to be moved temporarily during the monthly process, but it would work.

Well... now you have gone and done it. YOU can’t offer helpful tips without some more info. How much? Can you add to colors as well? Thanks!

“at a buck or two a bottle Hydrogen Peroxide is a good cleaning supply to buy by THE CASE (for the coming lean times)”

You are correct in that hydrogen peroxide is an incredibly useful (and cheap) item, but I believe it degrades over time, so if you are buying in bulk, you probably should refrigerate it.

Use it in planes, trains, buses, office buildings etc too.

Pump it into the White House while the kids are at school.

The best skunk remedy ever: a quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 c of baking soda and 2 tsp. Ivory liquid soap... beats anything else that I’ve used.

Hydrogen peroxide is good for cleaning spots and dirty patches on carpets, too. A friend just gave me that tip, and it really works!

I use white vinegar as a “fabric softener “ periodically ..it cleans out the accumulated commercial softener in the clothes and it also is a disinfectant ..My old mother in law gave me the tip for diapers ..when we used cloth :)

I wonder if white vinegar would work to clean out one of those awful HE washers? I had to buy one because it was literally the only kind of washer I could find on short notice, but they develop a horrible swampy smell that even the (very expensive) cleaning tablets can’t overcome.

Maybe I’ll try white vinegar. It couldn’t hurt and anything would be an improvement!
