Hiring news rookie CHELSEA CLINTON for NBC’s “Rock Center with Brian Williams” has created an ugly behind-the-scenes backlash, insiders say.
The former first daughter is the focus of “intense jealousy” among the show’s female correspondents, including news veterans Ann Curry, Natalie Morales, Kate Snow and Meredith Vieira, sources say.
While the women are honored to work alongside anchorman Williams, legendary “Nightline” host Ted Koppel, former CBS newsman Harry Smith and NBC Sports anchor Bob Costas, “the daggers are out for Chelsea,” an insider told The ENQUIRER.
“Chelsea has been hired as a ‘special correspondent’ with no TV news experience whatsoever, and there’s the feeling that she didn’t pay her dues.
“In contrast, the show’s other ‘special correspondent’ is Ted Koppel, who has decades of news experience!”
To add insult to injury, it’s Chelsea – not the experienced female reporters on “Rock Center” – who seems to be the center of attention, added the source.
“Top network brass are giving Chelsea star treatment,” the insider divulged. “One woman groused, ‘If her last name wasn’t Clinton, she’d be Chelsea who? There are college interns here who have more TV experience than she does, but they’ll have to go out to a place like Cleveland for years before they’d even be considered for a network job in New York.’
“And another woman added, ‘When her mother Hillary was running for president in 2008, Chelsea refused to give interviews to the media, and now she suddenly wants to be one of us!’
“There’s the feeling that Chelsea is simply using the job to ‘brand’ herself for the future – whether she follows her parents into politics or something else.”

I don’t blame them one bit. The pimping for Chelsea has been unreal.
The five viewers tuning in to “Rock Center” probably don’t give a rip.

As if news readers need any special skills. Walters was hosting the Today show at 25 or something, and it was not for her news skills. She paid her dues differently.
Ms. Clinton is pretty well educated. Maybe better educated than some of these other people mentioned. OK.. OK.. That really does not matter. What matters is if she can read. She can. And that is all that matters when you want to be a “correspondent”. Or president in the case of Barry er.. Barack Obama.....
Should 5,000 illegals cross in ONE night, claiming the jobs of roofers, truckers, and landscapers? The media says NOTHING.

We’re missing the point here:
Obama set the standard; the Presidency after part of ONE Senate term, and a NOBEL PRIZE after just 11 days in office (is when the unofficial decision was made, as it later emerged).
A signal has been sent, and now, as the Clintons see it, “It’s CHELSEA’S turn now...”
This is disgusting, but a natural next step.

Oh, come now, they are forgetting what their own job is. Their job is not to report the news or do journalism, it is to attract viewers to a time slot, so that the network can sell advertising. Period. Can Chelsea do that as well as they can? We'll see.

Yes, that's probably true. Its probably also true that every other woman on the show is trying to do the same thing, leveraging the job into something better.
