Has Lamar Smith been co-opted by the establishment?

SOPA is only one reason I ask this. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like I see Lamar Smith coming up more and more, and not in a good way.

For those who may have forgotten, here is what Trent Lott said:

"We don't need a lot of Jim DeMint disciples," Lott said in an interview. "As soon as they get here, we need to co-opt them."

How successful do you think they've been?

I never liked Lamar Smith too much. At one time there was a law passed to where your driver license was going to be required to display your Social Security number. In the process of it getting repealed, he tried to obstruct the repeal. He was also a big proponent of the Real ID Act as well.

Smith needs a serious GOP primary challenger, if not this year, then 2014.
