How am I supposed to vote for a Republican that runs against free markets and capitalism? The anti-Bain approach was dumb. I still like Newt, but it was a stupid move and I hope he recovers from it in time.

You seem primarily focused on finding negatives about Newt rather than Mitt.

Curiouser and Curiouser...

I didn’t see Gingrich’s attack on Bain as an attack on Capitalism per se. I think that was just Romney’s spin. I think its arguable that some activities of private citizens in free markets are actually not beneficial. For example, we don’t treat fraud kindly, even though it clearly benefits the individual fraudster. I understand that using vast amounts of capital to identify and chop shop vulnerable firms is a kind of garbage collection, but it is fundamentally parasitic in nature, and it can be done very poorly, as in inefficiently, and is not necessarily a credit to the practitioner. We no longer have debtors prisons. We don’t have absolutely free markets. We do try to do our capitalism with some sense of responsibility to each other. There is no real freedom in a moral void. That’s what I think Gingrich was going after. IMHO.
