HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. -- Kentucky State Police have arrested and charged a woman with first-degree criminal abuse, saying she severely injuring a 2-year-old girl.
Police said 28-year-old Ashley Chapman was babysitting the toddler when the injuries happened.
Police said the young girl is currently in critical condition at Kosair Children's Hospital.
"She was found to be unresponsive and had large bruises over a large portion of her body," said Kentucky State Police spokesman Chris Rafferty.
Court records said the victim lost consciousness after Chapman struck and severely shook the toddler at a mobile home in Radcliff.
Court records said the young girl also suffered a bite mark.
"After further examination by the doctors, she was found to have bleeding and swelling of the brain," said Rafferty.
