We went to a college orientation session at the UofMn this week. The “buddy system” is EXACTLY what the entering students are strongly encouraged to practice. So in that respect things haven’t changed that much.

But look at any hour of prime time TV. The constant message is sex is fun. The cool normal people have lots of sex with lots of people. It doesn’t mean anything, it’s just fun. And afterwards we can all laugh about it.

In all the lectures young folks get these days the one thing that ought to be taught isn’t - DON’T WATCH TV. They are LYING to you. If you try to copy those people you see on TV you will ruin your life.

You just hold onto a patriarchal view of sexuality that comes from puritanical American theocratic male dominated culture.

Sex is a birthright to be shared with anyone and everyone. Free love. If you hold it to yourself you are stingy and frigid and have problems, man.

The argument against abstinence is NOT that it doesn’t work. It’s that it is a suppression of sexual desire. All moral judgments over sexual relations should end!

Celebrate the orgasm. Ignore that “ring” and monogamy vow. If someone is in a relationship, but willing, go for it. Why draw the line at people who aren’t related? Sometimes you have a hot cousin. Same goes for members of the same sex.

NOTE: All of the above was playing devil’s advocate, making the arguments of the sex positive libertine Left. And it leaves behind a trail of human debris. But it is what they are after.

You are so right. It is very rare that I even take a peek at a sitcom, but, yes, that is what they are portraying.

I have a DIL who loves “How I Met Your Mother”, so I watched it once with her. I am sure I really got on her nerves with my comments of disapproval. There is all kinds of sleeping around, and, as you say, it is just the cool thing to do on these shows.

Years ago, when “Seinfeld” first came on, I watched it rather regularly. I found it quite entertaining, but then the sleeping around started regularly on that show, so that ended my viewing of that.
