Since Dr Michael Mann announced his intention to sue over my Corner post, I've had a few queries on this and that aspect of the case:
1) Several readers have asked if there's a legal defense fund to which they can contribute. No, but, if you want to help out, you could always send a few bucks National Review's way. Since Dr Mann's lawyer, John "I don't bluff" Williams, has assured us he doesn't bluff, it seems prudent to budget for a full-length trial. You can donate to NR here. Or better yet, subscribe to the magazine, and enjoy a fortnightly frolic with yours truly plus Rob Long, Jay Nordlinger, Jonah Goldberg and the rest of the gang.
2) Other readers have asked questions about the principal subject of my post - the Penn State inquiry into Dr Mann. If you want to read the full report, you can find it here. Alternatively, you can read this assessment of it from that notorious right-wing nest of climate-change denialists at The Atlantic Monthly. This excerpt from the conclusion is especially choice:

How many more ways can Penn State be embarrassed? It’s becoming traumatic for me to even admit I graduated from there...and I sure had my problems getting through the muck then.
Steyn must be entirely alien to the left. The legal threats indicate they think he must be fearful of his career going down in flames from their legal actions. They have not put their background checkers on him at all or they wouldn’t bother. They would either ignore him or just file their suits.
Michael Mann’s research documentation is hidden better than Obama’s birth certificate.
Michael Mann’s hidden research is a very good reason for Mark Steyn NOT to back down. It will be subject to discovery!
Thats a good one to remember, never heard it before....GG
Mark Steyn ping. This concerns climate leftist Michael Mann threatening Steyn with a law suit.
If you are new to this topic grab some popcorn and enjoy. This is going to be very funny if Mann does not back away very quickly. Here are some links in order to get you up to speed:

Thanks for the ping passionfruit.
BTW, one of the commenter on one of the links I posted “claimed” that Sandusky was threatening to sue Steyn for associating Sandusky with Michael Mann!

Actually, I found Steyn’s column tame, almost mild. For the most part, Steyn is commenting on an article appearing in http://www.openmarket.org/2012/07/13/the-other-scandal-in-unhappy-valley/
Don’t feel bad. All government universities are becoming cesspools of liberal propaganda and PC “research”. The worst thing that happened to this country was when government took over education (for the most part). What we desperately need is separation of school and state.
Thanks for the ping.
Exactly, for some reason, I guess deep pockets, these guys are going after National Review and Steyn. They will learn the lesson of going after people who own servers, ie the modern equivalent to buy ink by the barrel.
Interesting viewpoint you bring to the table. Since Humanism is a recognized religion, the interpretation of the laws of separation of Church and State DO apply to the present school system!
