Freeh Group member finds fault in NCAA’s use of report

The 267-page document that was relied heavily upon by the NCAA in sanctioning Penn State football was never intended to use as justification for punishment, a member of the group that cultivated it said recently. In a report by the Chronicle of Higher Education, a member of the Freeh Group said the document was not “meant to be used as the sole piece, or the large piece, of the NCAA’s decision-making.”

You have to clink on the chronicle link in the SI article to read the story (I guess I can't even link chronicle.com here? I don't know).

Penn State leadership is so weak it is pathetic.

What a sham. And most of you still buy into it. Given his track record, why anyone on this forum would believe ONE WORD that came out of louis freeh's mouth is beyond me.

But it fits the narrative, so you gobble it up - never having even read the fricking report.

This quote alone calls into credibility the ENTIRE summary (which is all the media read) of the stupid report:

"The NCAA took this report and ran with it without further exploration," this person said. "If you really wanted to show there was a nexus to cover up, interview the coaches. See their knowledge and culpability and how far this went."

Perhaps because it's part of a continuing exposition of a pedophile ring.

Surely you don't support pedophilia.

Surely.

Are you implying that because I defend my Alma mater against unwarranted media attacks and bogus reports that I support pedophilia?

That’s as deep as your thought process goes? That must suck.

The Penn State penalty enforced by the NCAA is absurd. Paterno is dead and Sandusky is in jail. Why punish the 18-19 year old PSU athletes who had nothing to do with this scandal? I’m also perturbed at the secondary impacts this penalty will have on small businesses near the Penn State campus thanks to the NCAA. If they’re not filling the football stadium, then local hotels, restaurants, etc. will be crushed in this economy.

IMHO!
It’s very simple. The Freeh Report was a perfect blunt instrument with which the NCAA could threaten PSU with the “Death Penalty” if they wouldn’t hold still for EXTORTION to the tune of $60 Mega!

The NCAA also, by “vacating” those 112 PSU victories, handed their buddy Bobby Bowden the top “victories” spot for “major universities.” They HAD TO add that qualifier because, even with the larceny of those 112 wins from the PSU football squads who won them fair and square Bowden would not have the top spot. Because without the qualifier; if ALL universities are included, Eddy Robinson of Grambling has the most victories! And Lord knows, THAT wouldn’t sit well with a bunch of “old south” racists.

I know I’ll get flack for THAT accusation, but I figure what’s good for the bad-mouthers should be good for the encouragers. If the late Joe Paterno can be villified and branded a pedophile before all the trials have taken place, and before ALL the evidence has been presented, and before all the verdicts have been rendered, and without even HEARING his side of the story.....then it’s fair game, and PROBABLY lots more accurate, to call Bowden, Bryant, et al, old south racists.

PSU’s and Joe Paterno’s graduation record for ALL athletes is NUMBER ONE in the Nation! Bobby Bowden, et al are so far behind that record as to appear to not even made that a subject with which to be concerned!

The Brent Mussbergers, Sports Illustrateds, the ESPNs, et al, of the sports media world have always despised Penn State and never passed up an opportunity to belittle it. The biggest prostitute among them was Keith Jackson! That bigotted old bastard would openly ROOT for the opposing team while announcing the game; and if Penn State happened to be LEADING on the scoreboard, he and his sidekick would sit there and brainstorm how “their” team could turn the tide and avoid a loss.

Some day some HONEST, TRUTHFUL, UNBIASED reporter is going to get to the bottom of ALL the evidence, and will write a book telling how EXACTLY how the entire case went down; and I am very confident that at that point Joe Paterno will be exonerated of 95% of what he has been ACCUSED of without the benefit of a trial or even a rebuttal or defense.

Meanwhile, as to the person who was the cause of all this; Jerry Sandusky........if it isn’t already taking place, I hope the day soon comes when the proverbial “Bubba” and “Bruno” and “Leeeroy” who rule the cell block, will fulfill the well-known adage regarding retribution, that what goes around comes around!

I am sick and tired of know-nothing Yankees insulting the SEC. What proof do you have that the "old south" is any more racist than any other part of the United States. There are racists in 50 states. The "old south" got over it's racism decades ago. WE get along. All of the race riots and stuff I keep hearing about are in Yankee cities like Philadelphia, Chicago, and Detroit.

BTW, Grambling is in Louisiana, which is very proud of Coach Eddie.

Your point is a pretty good one. Institutions cannot be guilty of anything.

Determine which individual within the institution are guilty and punish them. I don’t think anybody is claiming this coverup provided Penn State a competitive advantage in winning games, which should be the relevant issue for the NCAA.

What the NCAA is doing involves punishment of the uninvolved. How that helps the situation is quite beyond me. It’s mob rule. People hate pedophiles (you’d have to look long and hard to find someone who hates them more than me) so we’ll punish those who had nothing to do with the criminal sexual assaults or its coverup. Huh?

I’m proud of coach Eddie, too. You obviously missed my point that in order to push Eddie Robinson aside and make it appear that Bowden has the most Ws now, they put in the qualifier of most Ws by a coach from a MAJOR university, which is a tip as to what THEY think of Eddie Robinson AND Grambling.

And when I talked about racists I ONLY MEANT those “major” coaches that NCAA favors.....like Bowden.....and I only did THAT because they branded Joe Paterno a PEDOPHILE with no real evidence and only their hate-filled prejudice to go on.

If they can put a label on JoePa, I can do the same with some of THEIR clay-footed “legends.” And when the evidence has all been examined, the trials are finished and the verdicts are all handed down, JoePa won’t be any more of a pedophile than Bowden, Bryant et al are/ were racists.
