The film is an adaptation of the novel One Shot - which was the film's working title. The scheduled release date is December 21, 2012.

Notice that in the trailer, Reacher is hot rodding. The books say that Reacher wasn't a good driver.

This might be the first movie where I actually look forward to the remake.
Lee Childs must have plans for a new character moving forward...this is going to kill Reacher IMO.
Love the books and he rarely drove at all. Subway. Walking across fields. Getting a lift. He had people drive j=him often. That i can recall. Rare that i recall him driving all that often. Size is all wrong too. Really won’t see this so i am not disappointed.
NO WAY Tom Cruise is Jack Reacher. All of the Reacher fans I know have sworn to stay away. Lee Childs should have known better.
Yuck! That’s one movie I won’t be viewing. Hope Lee Child is getting well paid to endorse turning a 6’5” Man into a 5’5” twit.
I love the books but TC is no Reacher. I will not be seeing it. Child should have known better.
This is as poor a casting choice as when they decided to give Cruise the role of Lestat in Interview With The Vampire.
Rutger Hauer was made for that role, and Julian Sands would have been a great second choice.
Hugh Jackman as Logan in X-Men is very close. Liam Neeson would be good, Sam Elliot in his younger days would have been perfect, Daniel Day Lewis, maybe Nicolas Cage. Think Viggo Mortenson, Ed Harris, or Daniel Craig with a few extra inches of height on them. Jack is a brooding, thinking guy who would rather talk than fight, but can fight with the best when provoked.
Tom Cruises main acting meme seems to be a leering smile and the ability to look like he's running really fast. That's just not Jack Reacher at all. Too bad. A good character is going down the movie tubes.

Prior to Cruise’s involvement, Jackman was Child’s choice for to play Reacher.
Not exactly great literature, but great entertainment. It would be so easy to make 4-5 movies by combining the plots of all the books. Find some good but under-rated actors. Like the old James Bond movies.

My son is 6’6”, weighs about 220, 34” waist, and does some kind of fighting, kicking, martial arts thing. Former Airborne Infantry with two combat tours and hands like giant claws.
He should have been hired to play Reacher.
Did I mention blue eyes and he can pick up women in a heartbeat?
Well, that’s another movie to go on the “MUST MISS” list. I’ve read ALL the Jack Reacher novels and Tom Cruise just doesn’t cut it. Tom Sellick...maybe. FUGGITABOTIT!!!
Yeah, of course Lee Child is O.K. with Cruise playing this role. Lee Child could make more money off this than all his novels. Still, as an avid Jack Reacher fan, having read all of Lee Child’s books at least twice, Tom Cruise playing this role is a major disappointment. Cruise does not fit the role, nor can he act the role. Now, someone like Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, could have been Jack Reacher without question!
IMHO, James Caviezel from “Person of Interest” would be an exceptional Jack Reacher and he is definitely not 5’5”.
