“The opening and closing ceremonies would probably be just a bunch of gangsta rappers and American Idol rejects.”
Excellent point. Those ceremonies would be painful to watch.
Regarding the closing ceremonies on Sunday, what bothers me most are the what if’s. By that, I’m referring to the artists who weren’t on stage.
Maybe some of the them were asked and said “Gee, this looks like a painful event. I’ll have to take a pass on performing”.
But think about it...Bryan Ferry (with or without Roxy Music), Rod Stewart, Phil Collins (either alone or with Genesis), the Moody Blues, Van Morrison (he’s Northern Irish), Leona Lewis, Tom Jones (he’s Welsh), Spandau Ballet...Those are all artists I’d have liked to have seen.
Even though he’s a perv, it was OK to see George Michael featured as well as Madness and the Pet Shop Boys. I remember their music quite well in my younger years. The brief tribute to David Bowie wasn’t too bad either.
Maybe middle age is striking me in a bad way - but I found the closing ceremonies to be kinda chaotic and frenetic.
I guess I was hoping against hope that maybe Andy Partridge could have gotten over his stage fright and done some XTC numbers.
