The sad truth of the matter is that Cathryn is correct in stating the bill has no chance of being passed. It is a yearly ritual and in prior sessions other representatives have introduced similar legislation. I have helped collect thousands of signatures for Rep Dianne Hamilton when she has introduced similar bills through the years. As long as the democrats have a majority none will pass even though a comprehensive survey has clearly shown that by far the majority of New Mexicans are pro voter ID. I personally have come to the conclusion that the whole thing is a dog and pony show as are much of the elections in New Mexico.
Do they have an initiative process in NM? If a majority of voters in NM are pro voter ID, then a voter’s initiative should pass to make it state law.
