My wild guess on this is, the circular form is due to an impact, but the lack of shocked quartz and whatnot is due to the area having been covered by ice or water at the time of the impact. If there's no iridium enrichment, then the impactor was a comet. And I just now had breakfast, I work fast. ;')

Thank you for the one-click-instead-of-two to access the larger version of the image. That’s actually quite beautiful, and its miniature would make a lovely pendant.

Also, your opinions about its formation and composition make a lot of sense. I wonder why NASA didn’t figure that out?
