SHE was one of Australia's most prolific actresses, appearing in countless roles over a career spanning more than 40 years. And Penne Hackforth-Jones will be remembered as such after confirmation yesterday she had died following a short battle with lung cancer. She was 63.
Her death has shocked the local entertainment world, with the one-time A Country Practice star choosing to keep her illness private after being diagnosed last year. Her sisters Jos, Simary and Olivia last night said she responded to her disease with "great courage and grace".
The Oxford Companion to Australian Film probably best describes her, saying she was "eloquent of face and voice, with a gift for both pathos and comedy, she is one of the many actors underused by Australian cinema".

I thought she would have been a lot older - probably because she was on our TV screens for so long - great dramatic actress.

IMDb says she was born in 1943, and hence would’ve been 70 this year.
Wiki says she finished high school 1966, so August 1949 looks like the correct DOB.
