Slavery of Africans in New York/New Amsterdam had been practices since 1626.

African were among indentured servants, but they were freed after a period of service. That's how there were free blacks in the colonies.

The Virginia case was the first person indentured 'for life', which is something I consider distinct from indentured servitude that brought people of all races to the colonies.

I grew up with two whites and two blacks as a group of friends. We couldn’t care less about race but the parents were each racist in their own way. One black set of parents were Black Panthers, in the military. Go figure. We never gave a second thought to racism. We were kids growing up and having a good time.

You know what. We, as conservatives, should stand for right and against wrong. NO MATTER WHO IT IS. The liberals are the ones who support their political and attack the other side regardless of right and wrong. Not us. They lynching happening to her right now is WRONG. WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Please get an education and learn to do research. Stop being so lazy. I know the public school system passed you from grade to grade and never really taught you to learn but now’s your chance. Google is available to every and not just us rich white guys.

That is not an example of a Jim Crow law. Jim Crow laws specifically forbade things on the basis of race. In the case you cite the requirement for one race to own property to vote did not apply to another. While it effectively disenfranchised blacks, it did not do so directly.

Assuming that I am under the impression that race relations were perfect in Northern states would be a mistake. Assuming that I am under the impression that restrictive covenants, miscegenation laws, and other unequal policies did not exist in such areas would likewise be in error.

On the other hand, to deny that Black Codes as a systemic, often statewide mechanism to deny former slaves full civil rights was a product of Southern Democratic Party reaction to losing the Civil War, is a Southron attempt at revisionist history that has no place here.

I think someone has been reading dilorenzo (he attempts to equate the NY state constitution revision with Jim Crowe).

YOU, sir, are the biggest jerkwad ever.

First, let’s get one thing straight. I do have an education and I plenty well know how to do research. I have a Master’s Degree that I worked my butt off for, so you should just back off your little high horse.

I SIMPLY said TWO WORDS to you. 2.

I asked you to expound on a statement that you made. Why? Because I homeschool my junior high kiddo who HAPPENS to be have just finished a unit that discussed the JC Laws AND he was standing, looking over my shoulder and reading your statement when I typed the response. He was finishing a break and came back to take an Algebra test and waiting for me to get off the computer, because we only have one. He was curious to your statement and asked me about it. I told him that I heard that before but I had no specifics to offer him. I didn’t have time to do the research at the moment because he needed to take a test. I typed a quick response to you, which was “Please expound”. It was simple. Just a little more info on exactly what you referring to so I could explain to him. I have no problem “googling” anything. (and that’s if that’s your go to method for research, as you advised, then you need an education on all the other options available. Google is not an end all, be all.) I have found that MOST Freepers are decent people and will be more than glad to provide any link/source they may have readily available. I have also found that Freepers’ sources are generally WAY more reliable than google. I didn’t ask you to do ANYTHING having to do with research, because, dummy me, I assumed that you had ALREADY done the research or else you wouldn’t be spouting off your superior knowledge. So if you had to do research to expound on that statement, then that says a whole lot more about you than it does me, for simply asking. And after my response to you I went to straight to my cell and did a little research (the best I could with my limited data connection on my phone) and if you scroll up, you’ll see where I actually answered a question that someone asked you about a source.... because, SHOCKER, I DID look it up while waiting on your response.

You made a statement earlier on the thread about the sorry state of the communist public schools not doing their job and teaching history correctly, but it seems to me you are just a bitter old crabby man snapping at everyone who dares cross your path. You are pi$$ed about the schools not teaching and what have you done about it ??? NOT ONE FREAKING THING. Well, except attack a mother who actually has sacrificed A LOT to keep her child from being educated in the public school system. You had the chance to be a part of the solution to the uneducated society/younger generation and you chose instead, to gripe and moan that your wisdom was sought out. How the he11 do you expect the younger kids to get an education if the people who are supposed to be ADULTS don’t do all they can to help.

I am not perfect and unlike you, I don’t know every thing. And even though one of my degrees is actually in HISTORY, I still don’t know everything even about history. But, one key to research and learning and gaining more knowledge is to ASK QUESTIONS.

So, you just go along your little merry way griping CONSTANTLY about the public school system and all the uneducated kids and how the country is in the crapper b/c of it and the rest of us will actually get off our LAZY rear ends and DO SOMETHING about it. The irony of calling someone lazy who is actually DOING something about the very problem that you, the almighty Keyboard Warrior, is whining about is laughable.

And just for the record, I DID go to public school. Why would you attack me for that?? I had no choice in the matter, sir. But, at least it was a dang good one. But to mock me for that makes you look like a petty little man. And if you went to public school, it makes you a hypocrite. And if you didn’t, it makes you a pissy little snotty brat who thinks he’s better than others who’s parents couldn’t afford a private education. Regardless, I didn’t just get passed along in school, because my parents were way better people than to let that happen and I did my best in school and graduated 11th in my class with high honors and several academic scholarships, to *gasp* PRIVATE colleges.

I know you only snapped at me because that’s how you treat everyone, so I really take no offense. But, maybe you should try thinking really hard next time before you decide to call someone names, attack their character and basically call them idiot, before knowing their intentions or anything about them.

I think you posted to the wrong person.

I never once denied squat about the Black Codes. There are no “Southrons” here trying to revise anything. Just calm down.

The press has latched onto this one thing as the reason why Paula is hitting the bricks. How quickly people forget her diabetes debacle. This is Paula’s 3rd (at least) horrid PR gaffe in the last couple of years, how much of this crap is the network supposed to take?

“I am not perfect and unlike you, I don’t know every thing.”

Obviously you are not perfect.

You don’t know how to learn and that does make you an idiot. In this day with access to the Internet you want others to do you homework for you? Really? Are you really that stupid and lazy? Do you not have a single bone in your body capable of learning for yourself??

Anytime someone mentions something of interest I don’t tell them to do my homework for me. I go and research things for myself. Americans have become so fat and lazy we can’t seem to learn when everything we want to know is right in front of us.

She would’ve been dumped for her diabetes thing but she had a couple of years left on her contract. Paula has several horrid PR gaffes under her belt and I’m betting the decision for not renewing her contract is for a lot of things.

But, I will correct something:

“On the other hand, to deny that Black Codes as a systemic, often statewide mechanism to deny former slaves full civil rights was a product of Southern Democratic Party reaction to losing the Civil War, is a Southron attempt at revisionist history that has no place here.”

The Black Codes were well in place before the Civil War...and not only in the southern states. I wish people would quit acting like the South was the only place there were ever slaves, the only place where blacks were ever discriminated against, and the only place where there has ever been racial issues/problems.

STILL BEING A JERK eh?

A jerk who can’t read!

Go back, read where I confirmed I did research on the matter, then take you a good dose of fiber.

If you were in a group a of people and you made a statement intending on correcting a common error, and someone in the group was interested in what you had to say and said “expound please”, would you freak out on them and call them lazy and tell them to go google it? I would hope not, but you probably would. Point is, it’s no different here. Just a group of folks chatting.

So, you’ve never asked another person a single question in the quest to learn more about a subject? Explains your ignorance for sure.
