So did I. Then I foolishly fell in love with, and married, the son of a local union boss.
Holiday dinners were interesting, with their discussions about how to keep the rank and file worked up and angry at management day in and day out. The average union member has no idea how they are being used. The marriage didn’t last.
I know union tactics are evil.

I worked with a public employee union for years. Yes, they are very evil, and I think the public ones are worse because the taxpayers are their enemy, as they don’t want to just fork over all their earnings to taxes that pay the union salaries, pensions and Cadillac health plans.
