Former Cardinals icon Albert Pujols said late Friday that he plans to sue former Cardinal Jack Clark, as well as those connected with the St. Louis radio station on which he appears, for Clarks on-air steroids allegations about Pujols.
Then shortly after midnight Saturday morning, the company that has put Clark and co-host Kevin Slaten on the air abruptly announced they will not be returning after just seven shows.
At least twice in the first week of a program that made its debut Aug. 1, Clark said that former Pujols trainer Chris Mihlfeld told him in 2000 that he shot him up with steroids. Both were working in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization at the time. Clark also has made other steroids allegations about Pujols, attributing them to comments Mihlfeld had made to him more than a decade ago.
Late Friday night Pujols released a statement through his agency, MVP Sports Group, and went on the offensive.
Ive said time and time again that I would never take, or even consider taking, anything illegal, Pujols said. Ive been tested hundreds of times throughout my career and never once have I tested positive. It is irresponsible and reckless for Jack Clark to have falsely accused me of using PEDs. My faith in Jesus Christ, and my respect for this game are too important to me. I would never be able to look my wife or kids in the eye if I had done what this man is accusing me of.
I know people are tired of athletes saying they are innocent, asking for the public to believe in them, only to have their sins exposed later down the road. But I am not one of those athletes...

I believe Pujols.
"Ive said time and time again that I would never take, or even consider taking, anything illegal"
HGH wasn't illegal until a few years ago. His body seems to be breaking down. At least I know that Jack Clark hit his 300+ HR's legitimately.
Hey -- it's only an opinion, Albert. UNLESS you believe this allegation leads to a thorough investigation and can o' worms.
Can o' Worms: OPENED
Perhaps the trainer did tell Clark and the trainer is now back tracking. We don't know what was said in that conversation. Only Clark and the trainer know. But if the trainer did tell Clark, then I don't see anything wrong with Clark making that information public.
This from a guy who thinks Jerry Sandusky was railroaded and Paterno did nothing wrong. Put down the bong JoePa, put down the bong.
Gee, where have we heard that before? Sounds like Albert is channelling Lance Armstrong.
Don’t think I’ve ever heard Jack Clark (no e) comment on js’s guilt or innocence. That he thinks Joe did nothing wrong doesn’t exactly put him in some small minority.
What any of that has to do with Clark’s accusations against Pujols is beyond me.
You must be a big Sally Jenkins fan.
And HGH is a hormone, not a steroid. So players can truthfully say they never took steroids, while all the time they were juiced to the gills on HGH.
Go after the typo JoePa .. it’s all you’ve got.
Ive said time and time again that I would never take, or even consider taking, anything illegal, Pujols said. Ive been tested hundreds of times throughout my career and never once have I tested positive.
I believed the last guy that made almost the exact statement, word for word. I believe it is called the Armstrong denial.
I believe Pujols. Clark is a ninny, and I think he either lied through his teeth, or he’s a ninny.
I have to believe Clark on this one. We’ll see if a lawsuit is actually filed. Clark will get the Canseco treatment because of what he’s said, but how many lawsuits were filed against Canseco?
Pujols has more credibility. Clark has a curious history; excerpts from google search results (links follow):
Former professional baseball slugger Jack Clark was driven into bankruptcy in 1992 by his appetite for luxury cars. According to his bankruptcy filing, he owned 18 luxury automobiles, including a $700,000 Ferrari and a Rolls Royce. Clark was trying to pay 17 car notes simultaneously, and whenever he got bored with a car he would get rid of it and just buy another one.
In San Diego he is remembered more for his well-publicized rift with batting champion Tony Gwynn,
Clark said, “Trust me, from [a former player], I have a lot of insight into who did what and when but I’m not even going to talk about it. It really doesn’t matter.”
These days former Cardinals slugger Jack Clark is perhaps best known for labeling Mark McGwire a “fake, phony, cheater,” AFTER McGwire admitted being juiced.
The Los Angeles Dodgers fired hitting coach Jack Clark in an effort to get more out of their ineffective offense.
Jack Clark accuses former Dodger Shawn Green of PED use.
When he coached the Dodgers, Jack Clark always wore a jacket. He was the only one on the team who never took his off, because it covered his name and his number 22 on the back of his Los Angeles jersey. “I’m not a Dodger and I felt really weird wearing that uniform,” said Clark. “I didn’t like it because I’m loyal that way, but when I called, I was turned down by the Giants and the Cardinals.

All I know as a former ballplayer is that Jack Clark had a perfect baseball swing, and Pujols has a typical juicers swing. The no stride all upper body swing is the first clue on who the juicers are. I will one up Clark. A very high up Yankee official told me that a certain reliever about to retire was suspected to be a steroid user from the time they brought him up from the minors. The same guy later told me that David Wright could only get the bat speed he generated with a little help from PEDs. Another good story, a friend of mine worked in the Mets organization for Steve Phillips, who is now on Sat radio. After Piazza did not get into HOF, Phillips blasted everyone who implied that Piazza was a juicer. Anyhow, my friend told me back when Piazza was on the Mets that he was without a doubt a heavy juicer. His source, Steve Phillips.
Look what the juice did to Nomar up in Boston. Stuff ruined his body & career.
Wow — Jack Clark’s accusation has the same credibility as Louis Freeh’s, except that atleast Louis Freeh’s star witness never publicly dissed him.
Clark’s evidence is what again???
Clark was just stating hearsay on local radio. He wasn’t paid $10 million for a pre-determined opinion like freeh was.
