I have a prius as I drive an hour one way to work for a round trip of ~100 miles/day. I’ve gotten about 60-65 mpg over the last 5 tanks of gas. I run 60-65 in the center lane in a 60 mph zone for nearly the entire length.

The getup and go isn’t the best (a 4 cylinder when using the motor), but I have found that I get better mileage when I don’t try to get to 65 within 10 feet of the ramp and instead ease up to it over a mile stretch.

I’m not a nut about it - if someones on my tail I put it down to get out of the guys way. However, most of my driving is early morning late evening due to my current schedule.

For all those making comments against the prius I’ll just say: book, cover. I’ve known plenty of muscle car, minivan, pickup, and truckers who’ve been real jerks on the road as well. It’s the driver not the car.

That some drivers of the Prius are self-righteous does not make it any less useful a vehicle.

I drive an 08 Vibe. Which is basically a Toyota Matrix. I get about 27 mpg around town, and 30 on the highway, when I drive at “normal” speeds for around here of 75 or so.

I drive back and forth across the state a lot for work and discovered when I drive on the freeway at 60 I get 37 rather than 30. Not too bad.
