I'm getting to old for this. Trouble is, I remember the movies about WW11 times in Europe with people and their forbidden radios, transmitters and such, living in fear of that knock on the door. The encryption is either L2TP/IPSec or OpenVPN, both 256-bit bank encryption. The NSA is reported to have cracked the lower 128-bit PPTP protocol.
All Internet traffic routes through the VPN, not just bowser secure sites. That means email, games, streaming video, everything.
The traffic is encrypted before the ISP can see it. They know where you're going, but not what you're sending. And...
Where you're going is a secure server farm. The traffic is open from the farm to the final destination, but is secure from your computer to the server farm. The ISP only sees that you are communicating with the server farm.
Finally, there are server farms all over the world, and the cities they are in are growing. If sites are geotagged to only allow local access, you can connect to an in-country server and appear to originate from that location.
Oh, and you can also download an Android app and secure your smartphone traffic, too.
