Gov. Jerry Brown announced Monday he has signed legislation requiring California drivers to stay at least 3 feet away when passing bicyclists.
The proposal from Assemblyman Steven Bradford, D-Gardena, is intended to better protect cyclists from aggressive drivers. It states that if drivers cannot leave 3 feet of space, they must slow down and pass only when it would not endanger the cyclist’s safety.

Now they just need a law stating that muggers cannot get within 3 feet of passing bicyclists.
How about laws geared to bikers who refuse to obey traffic laws, are extremely obnoxious and in many cases dangerous.
We could simplify laws a lot if we just had one that required common sense and courtesy.

Does that include when they are riding the wrong way, facing traffic or riding 3 or more abreast?
How about a law requiring bicyclists to stay a least 3 feet away from motor vehicle traffic?!

I see aggressive cyclists all the time. They blow through stop signs, a bunch tried to get me to wait as my light was green today and they wanted to go in front of me on the wrong side of the road. Of course I went, screw em.
I ride bikes and I am not obnoxious about it. If I see a bike rider(s) trying to blow through stop signs (remember when all they wanted is to be treated like regular traffic, except when they’re not) I stop of course but go through slowly so they have to stop. Yes, it’s being a dick but they need to follow the rules.

Well, I guess this is good. Similar to the ‘Three Foot Law’ in Colorado. I’ve come close to being clipped.
People who ride bicycles on roads deserve to have the snot scared out of them every moment they are messing up traffic.

the scofflaws have amped up the anger in a LOT of motorists who now go out of their way... to preemptively do stupid things to bug bicyclists...like opening their car doors JUST to shock one as one tries to sagely ride past them
its only going to get worse now that theres another law to follow...
COMMON SENSE would work for everybody if most riders and drivers werent so appaling arrogant and RUDE.

If these clowns are going to use our roads built with our fuel taxes, they need to start being charged a usage tax. We didn’t build our roads for a bunch of clowns riding bicycles.

What if you are two feet, eleven and 3/4 inches away? What if you are three feet away, but the cyclist swerves towards you in order to avoid a rock? Another feel-good law that is going to have dreadful consequences to some poor soul.
