(Vanity) Military Pay will stop after September 30th?
Defense Finance and Accounting Service ^ | 30 Sep 13 | I got the rope

Posted on 09/29/2013 11:40:47 PM PDT by I got the rope

I just read this on the website:

Active military, Reserve and National Guard members:

Active military, Reserve and National Guard members will be paid on time for pay entitlements earned September 30th or earlier. Military members cannot be paid for duty performed after the expiration of the FY 2013 CRA on September 30th. Once another CRA or an appropriations act is signed into law, normal disbursement of military pay will resume.

The dems want to inflict as much pain on us as they possibly can and hope we blame the republicans. This is completely and utterly bogus. Will congress get THEIR pay?

I’ll bet the mexican drug cartel billionaire gets paid for the obamaphones though.

Yes, we were late getting our pay when I was in training at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona in 1978. $397 a month before taxes and other deductions.

Where were you in the 1970s and 1980s?

I can remember at least five occasions where we were warned in mid-September of the upcoming events...no pay check after 1 Oct. We grumbled. The on-base bank promised to honor checks we wrote and simply hold them to the side. In almost every case....by the 7th day of the shutdown....things were fixed and we were paid by mid-October.

Everyone seems to have some short-sighted memory. It was a regular thing to occur thirty years ago. No one got terribly upset...mostly because of lack of 24-hour a day news coverage. I think the President and his staff are thinking that news coverage will turn the tide for them, and hurt the Republicans badly.

The issue is...can the President stay in DC for fifteen-odd days and avoid the blame-speeches? I don’t think he’s capable of that....and if he travels around the US while we are shut-down, he’ll look awful foolish. If he plays the blame-game....no one will believe the journalists as they attempt to explain this.

History is repeating itself...except this time, the President loses another notch on his appearance scale.

Just a personal observation, but this doom-and-gloom cycle that keeps being played out...doesn’t work no more. You could allow fifty ambassadors to be shot by Muslim fanatics, allow Joe Biden to get into a fist-fight with a midget wrestler, and announce that Jay Leno is the next White House press spokesman. It doesn’t matter. We don’t take any of this serious anymore.

Depends on the Senate...the house passed a resolution granting active duty pay regardless of a shutdown:

I don’t know how reliable this source is, but this article purports to explain the effects of a shutdown:

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/sep/29/us-government-shutdown-services-affected

Note from the article that the current proposal from the House includes a provision that would continue military pay. Seems to me that if the Senate rejects the whole proposal outright, you military folks can put the blame on Dirty Harry and his accomplices.

I told my nephew who called me this weekend from 29 Stumps, to just continue to do his job...

It will (eventually) catch up with you, and you need to set an example for those in your unit, up and down your chain of cammand, that YOU are not going to do anything less than your duty, and then some...

On a side note, which I did not communicate with him about, but I will do here, I do have a oncern about overall morale and efficiency of ALL our active duty servicemembers...Many of whom do not have a lot of “tactical” (extended) support from folks who have been there as well in the service...

There is nothing illegal about the money running out, and yes, this has happened before, as someone else posted...IT is absolutely irresponsible of the people who are elected to office to maintain the defense of our country, so it is all of them for gaming this into the current mess we are in...

Like someone else said, this is getting a lot more attention this time as the news is constant and puting it out there for everyone to see...Not like it used to be...

The government will issue IOUs instead of military paychecks.

Every bank will instantly honor those IOUs with full cash loans, which at current government interest rates is less than 1% per year.

I’m going to disagree here. He signed a contract with the Government, a contract which the Feds are unilaterally breaking. Things that actually contribute to the defense of the nation ? Yes, do those. Administrative BS: none.

You are correct, and I did point that out to him, I also counseled him on the fact that even though the compensation he is supposed to receive for services rendered, or the lack of compensation received is by no means a “breach” of contract, I made sure that he did not malaise, or talk bad about the “system” (to others), and not get caught up in the bad mouthing of the government from his position...

I know how tough it is not too, but I do not see this being a problem for very long for those serving this country in the armed services...Just going to have to gut through it as best they can...

The payoff, much less the compensation, comes after all is said and done...

I’ve also told him that if things get tight, I’ll be glad to help out, him and his little bride, if need be...That’s much more than what his immediate family has told him recently...

Is this legal?

Questionably, it is...as you will be paid...just not on time.

Has this ever happened before?

Sadly, it has. Generally speaking, if you've got bills coming due that a deferred paycheck can't fix, most legit outfits will work with you because they know it's out of your control...and the fact that everybody knows the back pay will happen with military. At least that's the way it was for me with the shutdowns in the 1980s and 1990s.

If you have creditors where you have bills coming due, I would suggest that you get in contact with them before the bills come due (particularly if this shutdown lasts more than a few days) and work on some arrangements up-front.

I remember only ONE time there were no paychecks and I remember gratefully that our bank Nation’s Bank, assured all direct depositors it would go ahead and posr a credit into our accounts equal to the last paycheck

One reason I stuck with Bank of America all these years

I figure the sh won’t hit the f until the ebt cards fail to load

You sound like a great uncle (or aunt?)
Kudos to you

This is the last thing a lot of these young military families need to be worrrying about, expecially those whose spouses are holding down the fort while the other is deployed

sad sad sad, and our Cinc plays golf at Belvoir on Saturday and declares going to Bali next weekend is part of his really important job

Here’s a source of briefings about the situation

The military is part of the government and they know the risks. It will be short lived if at all. Stopping Obamacare is more important than paying our soldiers.

We have all noted they go after the LEO, Teachers and Military before any one else, they do it on purpose as they know these are the most needed positions.

With the Tat ban, fewer will volunteer, and that means 0 will have to draft, and you women who pushed for combat will also be come eligible for the draft. You put your nose under the camel’s tent insisting you could do the job. Now you pay for it.

I am surprised a GOP 18 year old male has not already filed a lawsuit over the issue that you do not have to register for the draft and he does! That is inequality, since you proved you can do combat just as a male does.

Retiree’s I hope do not fall under this edict, their retirement is like SS an entitlement, not a law or regulation. We are struggling enough with the rise in Medicare and TFL co-pays along with the higher fuel and food cost. Clothes we can make last, but you have to have food and fuel and health care, as most of us have health care needs if you are over 65.

We have seen our co-pays double twice in the past 2 years with NO COLA raises except that one election year 1.7% half went to medicare, which means we saw about $40 cash, a tank of gas. LOL while congress got big fat pay raises each year. Their raises should be tied to COLA raises for Military and SS seniors. And for the same amount.

Its about inflicting pain and spewing propaganda.

It they could figure out a way to do it, the Dems would cut off the oxygen at VA hospitals as the first step in any government shutdown.
