Bin Laden, and what became the Northern Alliance, were part of different groups, albeit ones that cooperated against the Soviets. Bin Ladens associates wanted nothing to do with our unclean help, making any theoretical offer a moot point. We assisted the Northern Alliance, which is the same group we supported in driving back the Taliban in 2001.
Oh, and Bin Laden wasn’t a major player in this...though he does appear to have had some contacts in what the became the Taliban (an INI construct)
