LOL, me too! But I do know where my kid was born, although she laughs at me that I could never remember the year, which is true.
From Wikipedia:
As the film entered post-production, Guccione took control of the film footage, fired Brass for running up huge costs (Guccione claims Brass shot enough film to “make the original version of Ben-Hur about 50 times over”),[4] casting actual criminals as Roman senators,[6] and using what Guccione considered “fat, ugly, and wrinkled old women”[4] in the sex scenes instead of his Penthouse Pets. Guccione hired friend Giancarlo Lui to re-edit the film. Lui was instructed to refashion the film into something more in keeping with what Vidal had first scripted, while delivering the sexual content demanded by Guccione. In their most controversial move, the pair shot extra scenes of hardcore sexual material[6] which would be used to replace scenes shot by Brass.
With much footage improvised and rewritten from the original draft of the film, Lui further scrambled, re-cut and deleted scenes altogether. Many of the disturbing sexual images shot by Brass were removed, replaced by approximately six minutes of hardcore sex shot by Guccione and Lui. In the end, the final cut of the film had strayed far afield from what Brass had intended. Ironically, perhaps, it bore little resemblance to what Vidal had scripted as well.
My brother is also a big Lawrence of Arabia fan. He pinged me last Fall on Facebook about the 50th anniversary of Lawrence. I didn’t realize that it was being re-released for one day on the big screen. He went with a friend! I missed it!
But, that aside, its because of Peter OToole that I never dismissed the Obama birther stuff out of hand. OToole had two valid, government-issued birth certificates
Well, there ya' go; it happens all the time.
Thanks, Mesta.
ARRGGGH! I saw it in our local theater when first released. I was transfixed for nearly three hours. Never even moved during intermission. That theater was still in operation when the motion picture made its 50th anniversary showing. A classic movie house and theater with velvet drapes, balcony seating, gigantic screen, and incredible sound system and I was halfway across the country. Rats...
“he has known many Marxists who were still good people.”
Anyone who has read and understands Marx and lives has life according to the Marxist dialectic CAN NOT under any circumstances be a “good person”. It is literally impossible. The best you can be is a useful idiot.
Unfortunately, if Pope Francis doesn’t understand this then he himself is a useful idiot.
*** that epic porno, Caligula.***
I don’t think it was originally planned as an X rated porn. It was after Bob Guccioni took over.

“There are various versions of the film, ranging from the heavily- truncated 90-minute version to the legendary 160-minute hardcore version which leaves nothing to the imagination (though the hardcore scenes were inserted later and do not involve the main cast members).”
No matter which version you see, it was a very poorly done film.
I still like this RARE film with Peter O’Toole and Anthony Quinn.
THE SAVAGE INNOCENTS.

If I walk into the room, turn on the TV and this is playing, no matter where you are in the film, it grabs you and will not let you go!
MAN OF LA MANCHA ...
and HIGH SPIRITS...
RIP, Mr. O'Toole
“High Spirits” was very funny.

My Favourite Year~1982
Steyn ping.
I don’t watch many movies but this movie, which very few people viewed, was a great flick. Funny take on a washed up actor that is to be on a TV show. Only problem is he’s a drunk and a poor young intern must keep him sober for the show. At the time Peter was living this character battling many of the demons he acts out. If you want a laugh and enjoy great acting give it a view.

It’s a great movie!
Posted to the wrong thread, I suspect.
I was watching football and reading and posting on FR at the same time. I had two FR articles open at the same time. Sorry for the mistake.
No worries - non-sequiturs are fun!
My father’s birth certificate said Nov 11 but his mother insisted he was born on the 10th. His solution was to celebrate both days.
Has it’s own thread,
RIP.
