I live just a few miles from the Mississippi river. They have gotten to be very common here during the winter and some stay over the summer. When the river freezes over they congregate by the locks for easy fishing. On some days you can see over one hundred in one place. Lots of people go there to watch and the eagles have gotten accustomed to them. I have had them fly within 30-40 of me and look look me right in the eyes! That sounds thrilling!
You're going to think I'm being sarcastic, but I'm not. The closest I've ever come to your experience with the eagles is being buzzed by bats hunting insects. When mosquitoes and gnats are giving you a hard time bats'll sometimes practically shave you to get a bite. No, it's not a bald eagle, but it's pretty exciting. And I mean that in a good way.

Not at all! I'm a big fan of bats and let everyone around here know that I will help them remove them if they get them in their home and turn them loose. Many people still kill them. I just rescued one last week. I turn them loose at home and many seem to have stayed around.
