A man who swallowed an unspecified amount of cocaine after he was arrested during a traffic stop died in custody, according to the Kenner Police Department.
At approximately 1:50 a.m. Saturday, 25-year-old Kenner resident Joshua Adams was stopped by a police officer who noticed what appeared to be an altered temporary license plate on Adams' vehicle. After removing Adams from the car, police say the officer observed the man chewing on a white, powdery substance believed to be cocaine.
The officer arrested Adams, who also had an outstanding attachment for his arrest, and took him to the Kenner Police Jail Complex. After the police supervisor tried to get Adams, who was still chewing on the white substance, to spit out whatever was in his mouth, Adams began spitting up blood and became unresponsive, according to a Kenner Police Department news release.
Adams was transported to Ochsner Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities say preliminary tests revealed that Adams tested positive for cocaine and THC; Adams also had a prior conviction for possession of cocaine.
The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office has not yet classified Adams' death.
He may be eligible for a Darwin Award.
He showed them!
Always nice to read stories of idiot dopeheads doing themselves in. Almost as enjoyable as home-invaders getting blown away by armed citizens.
Good job .... thank a policeman in Kenner...
It’s surprising how small an amount of cocaine, orally taken, can kill. You can inject, snort, or smoke x grams over a night, but taking 1/10 that orally can kill.
In humans the LD50 is approx. 1.2gm orally for your average-sized person. That’s not a lot.
He possessed it.
It possessed him.
Fin
Better he took himself out now rather than him plowing into a family next week.
He perished in the Parish. Oh well.
Snorting is inefficient and gets it into the system slower and less completely. Oral gets the whole shebang in there quicker and complete.
