'I can't be sure God does not exist' Richard Dawkins admits he is in fact agnostic

Professor Richard Dawkins dismissed his hard-earned reputation as a militant atheist - admitting that he is actually agnostic as he can't prove God doesn't exist.

The country's foremost champion of Darwinist evolution stunned audience members when he made the confession during a lively debate on the origins of the universe with the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Professor Dawkins is a dedicated admirer of Charles Darwin, regarding the Victorian pioneer of evolution as the man who explained ‘everything we know about life’.

But when Archbishop Dr Rowan Williams suggested that Professor Darwin is often described as the world's most famous atheist, the geneticist responded: 'Not by me'.

He said: 'On a scale of seven, where one means I know he exists, and seven I know he doesn't, I call myself a six.'

Professor Dawkins went on to say he believed was a '6.9', stating: 'That doesn't mean I'm absolutely confident, that I absolutely know, because I don't.'

The two men were debating whether Biblical writers 'got it wrong' by not saying that the universe is billions of years old.

The Archbishop said: 'The writers of the Bible, inspired as I believe they were, were not inspired to do 21st century physics, they were inspired to pass on to their readers what God wanted them to know.

'In the first book of the Bible is the basic information - the universe depends on God, humanity has a very distinctive role in that universe , and humanity has made rather a mess of it.'

This latest admission by Professor Dawkins comes after he was left lost for words name the full title of his scientific hero’s most famous work during a radio discussion last week when accused Christians of being ignorant of the Bible.

In his frustration, he resorted to a helpless: ‘Oh God.’

If I was an alien from a far superior planet, why in the world would I plant single cell organisms on a distant planet with a high probability of failure only to wait millions or billions of years in hopes of having it turn into something? That sounds about as crazy as Obamacare.

There are agnostics, Satanists, and secular humanists.

The first two are honest, and the third is in denial about who he works for.

There are a great many people that have a legitimate anger toward God, as he was advertised at the time, among kids.

Abused, poor, sexually victimized - one could legitimately ask ‘Where was God when my Dad was sticking his penis in my ass every third night?’

I would think that coming back to the neighborhood of ‘There is a God’ would be difficult. I know that getting from ‘There is a God, and He knows me, loves me, and wants me to be happy doing His will’ is a bit longer journey.

Most of the questions I encounter among unchurched kids these days start with, “If there’s a God, then why . . . “

Paul had it easy - God literally hit him over the head. This is what modern Christians don’t understand - every single ‘hero’ of the Church was a deeply flawed individual. Almost all of them had some sort of ‘Close Encounter of the First Kind’ with God too.

This is why the story of Jesus forcing Thomas to place his hand in His wounds is so profound. How many that believe in Christ afterward would never have such an opportunity?

Even moreso, there was the chimp typing experiment idea... But that’s the problem, you can’t really disprove ID, because all experiments are strictly controlled and organized, and therefore not random.

I would recommend Expelled by Ben Stein. A good film on the absurdity of the idea that the universe is wholly random.
