'Lone Survivor' Takes on CNN's Jake Tapper

TAPPER: One of the emotions I felt while watching the film is, first of all, just the hopelessness of the situation, how horrific it was and also just all that loss of life of these brave American men. And I was torn about the message of the film in the same way that I think I am about the war in Afghanistan itself. I don't want any more senseless American death

LUTTRELL: Well, I don't know what part of the film you were watching, but hopelessness really ever came into it. Where did you see that? We never felt like we were hopelessly lost or anything like that. We never gave up. We never felt like we were losing unless we were actually dead. That never came across in the battle and while we were fighting on the mountain and it was just us against them.

TAPPER: Hopelessness, just the sense of all these wonderful people who died. It seemed senseless. I don't mean to disrespect in any way but it seemed senseless, all of these wonderful people who were killed for an op that went wrong.

LUTTRELL: We spend our whole lives defending this country so you tell me because we were over there doing what we were told to do was senseless and they died for nothing?

TAPPER: No, I'm not saying that at all.

LUTTRELL: That's what you said. So, let me just say that, yes, it went bad for us over there but that was our job. That's what we did. We didn't complain about it. We went out there and did what we did best and at the end, we weren't standing. They were.

Heavily edited, so for the rest of the conversation with Tapper follow the link.

I read the book, so I had to see the movie.

To all who served, thank you very much.

I also read Tapper's Afghanistan book. In it he was very tough on the Bush administration's defense dept policies yet couldn't find even a few words to criticize Obama's, even though casualties have proportionately tripled under the latter.

Tapper may have asked relatively tougher questions than the rest of the toads in the news media but he still thinks like a liberal.

We saw “Lone Survivor” Sat nite with 17 other parents of active duty military, mostly Navy and Marines, including an active duty SEAL.

To quote my dear wife, “This movie should be required watching for every American.”

Oh yes, I almost forgot. Jake Tapper is a fool.

The website Box Office Mojo reports the Afghanistan war movie “Lone Survivor” opened to an estimated $38.5 million this weekend, which is second all-time in January behind 2008's sci-fi monster film “Cloverfield.”..

I'm sorry...I really wanted to read the entire interview, I went to the link. The FIRST sentence was the above...What in the hell kind of screwed up association is this?

This movie he's talking about, and he takes the lame, lazy journalist way out and Googled 'box office,' 'opening weekend,' and Afghanistan + Wahlberg, and 'biggest $ + (I don't need anything else cogent and applicable). THEN, he gets into the meat of this interview. I mean, hey - ohhhhh-kayyyyyy...

To be truthful, I wouldn't have even bothered to reply and chalk it up to lazy-a$$ed journalism, but, damn!,

Any sane person would have said "nope, not even gonna go there" seeing "CLOVERFIELD" as the second moola contender and seeing this doofus actually mention that theft-DVD-felony.

In “Lone survivor” Luttrell talked about the rules of engagement at length. Best I can remember he blamed the very restrictive ROE on the media and members of congress, which we know at the time was in Democratic hands. I seems to remember he praised GWB a time or two...can’t remember. I read LONE SURVIVOR after AMERICAN SNIPER so I don’t know if I blended the two.

A man like Lutterell would have an easier time speaking and being understood by a space alien from Alpha Centauri than a metrosexual like Tapper.

When they started showing pictures of the guys who died it really hit home. I heard a lot of sniffing and seen hands going up to their eyes, in between me doing the same.

I’m sure Luttrell’s training came in handy to keep him from jumping up and b!tch slapping Tapper.

I wonder if there isn’t such a thing as to much training? I would cought up some bucks if they would do a pay per view!

There’s a HBO special on the making of the movie.

Pretty sure Wahlberg is a conservative too. He’s extremely Christian, pro military and never hear him support Obama or leftwing causes(which is usually a sign of a closeted Hollywood con).

I’ve heard of him, just don’t know much about him. I just think it was a bonehead question to put to Luttrell.

Haven’t seen this, but on the whole, Tapper is one of the best, fairest of the various reporters.

I require “Lone Survivor” every semester in my Technology and Culture of War class, and usually have a SEAL come in and talk to the class. Students like the book very much.

The students love my SEAL friend. “What made you become a SEAL?” (A) “Let’s just say I have a certain skill set . . . .”
