We always brought our kids with us. If they cried when they were babies, we took them out. Once they could talk I explained to them that they had to be quiet and well behaved or they'd get a spanking. Then when they did get out of control, I'd take him outside, explained that I loved him or but these are the consequences to your actions, ministered discipline, and gave a big hug again affirming love. I only had to do this once with each child. People frequently commented how pleasant our children were.

That said, people who refuse to discipline their kids not only influct their unruliness on society, but actually hate them. Look it up in Proverbs. Proverbs 13:24 (KJV) He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes (promptly, diligently). Proverbs 19:18 (KJV) Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

And here all this time I thought the “Spare the rod, spoil the child” saying was an admonition against artificial insemination. :=)

Today someone would spy you spanking your child in the parking lot and call 911. You would have child protection after you. The world has changed a lot.
