One week ago today, Governor Cuomo railed against what he called extreme conservatives who are pro-life, pro-assault weapons, anti-gay. He said such persons have no place in the state of New York, because thats not who New Yorkers are.
Yesterday, Mayor de Blasio said he agrees with Cuomos comments 100 percent. He explained, I interpret his [Cuomo's] remarks to say that an extremist attitude that continues the reality of violence in our communities or an extremist attitude that denies the rights of women, does not represent the views of the people of New York State.
deblasoThe spin wont work. Who is Cuomo, or de Blasio, to say which New Yorkers have a place in New York? Since when has ideology become a condition for residence? Such talk is demagogic and divisive.
This is not the first time de Blasio has illegitimately abrogated the authority to speak for New Yorkers about abortion. In February 2011, a pro-life group, Life Always, displayed a huge billboard in the SoHo section of New York that showed a picture of a young black girl with the inscription, The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb. Prominent African Americans endorsed the billboard; it was displayed during Black History Month.
This was enough to send de Blasio into orbit. As New Yorks Public Advocate, he was not satisfied to criticize the billboardhe wanted it banned (he succeeded). The billboard simply doesnt belong in our city. The ad violates the values of New Yorkers.
The lust for abortion that these two men have is disturbing enough, but it is their arrogance and censorial approach that is most obscene.
Scratch any progressive, find a tyrant.
New York has a big red X on it on my map.
Residents of New York City define the politics of the entire State of New York.
Only those outside of NYC and Albany can change the course of history (like the colonialists of 1773 did.)
Although A. Lincoln negated the 10th Amendment and made State secession “of no effect”, secession within a State is still an option, yes?
If another 9-11 happens there. I wont shed a tear or send a dime.
If this is what NYC thinks of us, then they obviously don’t need our “extremism” in the future if they are ever in a jam.
Hitler called the Jews extremists.
I lose the argument but I’m right.
Remember this the next time Muslim terrorists blow up something in New York City.
Exactly. You beat me to it.
The first statement after an attack should be “they don’t want our help. They hate us.”
What a disgusting fascist.
If I recall correctly, secession within a state requires the approval of the state involved and the U.S. Congress.
So the state of New York and Congress would have to approve of seceding from New York City. That would be tough to do legislatively.
Anyone please correct me if the process is different. As a practical matter, hasn’t happened since West Virginia split from Virginia during the Civil War.
Figgerd that.
In today’s language, tho, it comes to money. Can a municipality, today, tell the State (and by extension the Feds), ^Molon Labe^ when it comes to collecting taxes.
If not, well, the tax-paying citzens gets what they voted for, yes?
I would still cry, and most likely send money to the Church. I wonder what Grandma Cuomo is thinking...Maybe that her grandson is a jackass, and living in sin.
Jay walkers see leno.
I would think not unless the state legislature approves it. And no state legislature will let their slaves go free. Bank on that.
re: “New York City Mayor Agrees With Cuomo Booting Pro-Lifers, Calls Them Extremists
The thin veneer of civil discourse has been completely shed by the so-called “progressives”, “intellectuals”, and the “new” atheism toward traditional, Biblical Christianity.
The God of the Bible is described as a “hateful, murdering, narcissistic, capricious, ego-maniac.”
The Bible itself is now a “hate” document.
Those who teach/preach Biblical principles are guilty of “hate” speech and “extremism”.
Conservative Christian churches are “extremist/hate” organizations.
Conservative Christians are “hate-mongers” and of course, “extremists”.
Religious freedom now only applies to a religious organization, not the individual or an individual’s place of business. And, if religious freedom can be defined in such narrow terms, how far away are we from the government simply defining ALL religious freedom out of existence - unless it cooperates with the “secular” viewpoint on everything.
I guess we should not be surprised at this. Jesus said:
“These things I command you, so that you will love one another. If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” John 15:17-19
In Western society, it is now “mainstream” to openly mock, jeer, and defame conservative Christianity. Even Christ’s existence is seriously questioned. The time is coming in America, when not only mocking and silencing Christians will be acceptable, but also imprisoning them, torturing them and killing them will be considered helping to rid the world of “dangerous extremism”. It will be applauded. It’s already this way in the non-Western world. How far behind is it here?
What vile people get elected in NY. Matilda and Mario must be so proud:-)
As far as the conservatives still left in NY, see the Scriptures: "Come out of her, O my people, that you may not share in her plagues ..."
As “free citizens”, we as sooooooo HOSED!
Insanity is epidemic in New York!
