Yep. I think I read it was his favorite role. He later reprised it of sorts in “Pimpernel Smith” where he plays a WWII-era version of the elusive pimpernel.

I did last summer get my hands on a DVD copy of “Of Human Bondage”.

Great movie, but I wish they could go back in and do something about the sound, which was just about as bad as it can get.

Some places, Bette Davis looks like she’s about 16 years old!

They reprised their roles together in 1936, one of my all time favorite movies, The Petrified Forest, starring Howard, Davis, and a young rough-cut Bogart playing the murderous Duke Mantee.

I love old movies. Wherever possible, if there is an old movie and a modern remake, I try to get both.
