Dolphins fine and suspend player for tweeting negative comment about Michael Sam

When Miami Dolphins safety Don Jones tweeted "horrible" in regards to Michael Sam kissing his boyfriend on ESPN after being drafted by the St. Louis Rams on Saturday, it wasn't a moment the NFL, Sam, the Dolphins or anyone wanted.

But make no mistake, it allowed the NFL an opportunity to send a strong message: If you have public and negative comments about Sam and his sexuality, you will be punished and shamed.

Jones, a second-year strong safety who had 10 tackles in 16 games last year, tweeted "omg" right after ESPN showed Sam's reaction to being drafted. According to thephinsider.com, when asked on Twitter if he was referring to Sam kissing his boyfriend, Jones tweeted, "horrible."

The Dolphins and NFL aren't going to mess around with this type of thing. Jones was fined and suspended from all team activities until he completes educational training for his Twitter comments. The Dolphins didn't put this off. On a relatively quiet Sunday around the NFL, the Dolphins announced the punishment, put out a statement from coach Joe Philbin and an apology from Jones:

Six years away from Obama saying he opposed gay marriage, and now expressing opposition to homosexuality is virtually a crime. Amazing.

They are moving the bar higher and higher. It’s impossible for a normal person to escape the fangs of the leftist fascists. All you have to do is open your mouth and you are condemned.

We are now virtually at the point where a public expression of opposition to homosexuality can prevent you from being hired, can cause you to get fired, and - perhaps soon - get you jailed.

“Are know you are talking about the Constitution, but it seems you are missing the big picture here.”

Nope. I know the big picture. The big picture is that the gay mafia is winning. Our values are being corrupted to please a decided minority. But complaining about free speech doesn’t do anything. First it’s wrong, second, it won’t do anything. The big picture is take back the public schools, or learn to live with this kind of garbage.

“His employer is free to hold the player accountable.”

Maybe. Many state and federal laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of religious belief. If a player’s views on homosexuality are an expression of religious belief, punishing the player for expressing those views could be a violation of the law.

Get you jailed is where the first amendment would really be violated. Anything that happens before that, is culture war. A war we are losing.

taking back schools is too late brownsfan. Let’s call it what it is. One side has the muscle and is willing to use it. The other side has decided that being nice and “fair” is the way to go.

exactly Steve.

But hey, it has nothing to do with the First Amendment so no worries. We still have “free speech”, don’t we?

I do know one thing. If an owner of anything made a comment that was derogatory of Christians or “privileged whites”, and the franchise suspended the owner and was planning on a forced sale, Constitution Scholars and Lawyers would be coming out of the woodwork to protect that owner. Along with the Department of Justice and it’s muscle.

I don't know if Ted Turner still owns the Atlanta Braves, but - at a time when he did - he made derogatory comments about Christians and Christianity and suffered NO repercussions and NO media condemnation. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Oppose all local referendums to build the NFL and NBA any more stadiums at taxpayer expense.

I’m already there. No more football, no more draft day parties, nothing. The NFL is no longer welcome in my house.

The thought control commissars are everywhere, if one does not follow their enlightened way, then off to the re-education camp. Pray for guidance.

i posted the phone numbers for the NFL and the Miami Dolphins offices.

did anyone that read this thread make a call ? i called the NFL and the Dolphins.

just writing posts back and forth to each other in FR will ultimately accomplish nothing.

please make a call if you haven’t and let these queer supporters know how we are disgusted by their support and we stand by the free speech rights of anyone associated with the NFL or Dolphins who have a problem with the homosexual agenda and want to express it.

could be Steve. Here is the take away in my opinion.

I don’t want to get into a %^*%$% measuring contest with anyone here on who loves sports the most or who has watched more sports. I go back to when I was a kid and watched Lamonica hand over the reins to Ken Stabler and was a Raider fan for a long time. Then later became an Oilers/Moon fan.

My first basketball game I ever saw on TV was on a tiny B/W in my neighbors garage and watched a tall dude on the Bucks who I couldn’t pronounce his name. Later became this Center’s biggest fan and watched him go to LA, get a great guard from the draft and battle the Celtics for years.

I saw great baseball and boxing my whole life. Loved sports, played sports, probably spent too much time caring about sports. But something bad happened the last 8 years or so. Pro and College sports has become a manipulative tool for everything bad. I see nothing good in the major sports anymore. heck even the Olympics have become a non stop PC propaganda tool. I gave it all up and have never looked back.

I follow hockey now (which I hated my whole life). Don’t have to watch guys celebrating basic plays they make when their teams are getting crushed. Today, a linebacker tackles a RB for a 2 yard loss and gets up dancing and celebrating even though its the 4the quarter, 10 mins left and the guy’s team is down 21 points. This is common now and it’s a joke. The NFL and the NBA are a joke.

If you would have told me 20 years ago I would not watch football and basketball games with my son I would have scoffed. Now I don’t want my son to look up to most of these guys. Why any conservative dads let their kids buy a product that despises them and hates decency is what bugs me. If someone pees in my face I don’t smile and ask for more.

OK Rant off.

One of the benefits of my being old, beaten up and retired. I didn’t work for any “political” company. A reporter asked the President of Magma once how he liked the taste of smelter smoke, he replied,”Tastes like bread and butter to me.” The resulting pi$$ing and moaning from the Phoenix news papers made that the last interview Wes gave before he retired.

Nothing to do with free speech? Are you for real?

I suppose when they come knocking on your door, you’ll say the same thing.

And they will.
