This is not logical to me, and I fought it when I lived there. If someone really wants to kill themself, they will find a place to do it. Hopefully they could find help before it gets to that point.

Maybe it would be cheaper to just have 24/7 mental aid
help stationed on the bridge.

I’d rather you jump off the GG than a building in the financial district and maybe take someone else out with you.

I have a CD of a documentary about the bridge suicides. The documentary shows people jumping from the bridge. I watched until the first person jumped, and I couldn’t watch it anymore. I felt so badly for the man who jumped.

The Bay Bridge is right there. Not as iconic, sure, but if you want to kill yourself I’m sure it will do the trick. Are we going to start putting nets on all bridges?

Nothing new, they have barriers on NY high rises, Empire State building and many other locations all over...

It won’t stop people from killing themselves, but the leftist get to show they really care by spending your $$ before they embezzle it, skim the top and line their pockets...

I read somewhere that the few survivors from such falls usually had the same thought as they stepped-off:
“I wish I hadn’t done that.”

76 millioh bucks to save a suicide. I am sorry but once a suicidal lands on a barrier they will just climb over it to finidh the job.

Waste of money.

Why?

If someone is so messed up that they want to throw themselves off a bridge and traumatize hundreds of other folks, plus their families, why aren’t they in an institution?

Nevermind, the liberals forced the closure of places where the disturbed could live without affecting the rest of humanity.

If it saves some wayward souls, thats great. Hell, at this point, whats another hundred million on the burn pile.

But they should understand that now they will have constructed a “Dare Devil Wana-be, “ watch this for You Tube” attraction that ail have flocks of idiots trying it out. Then they will need another hundred million annualy to pluck idiots from the nets.

Amazing how people never learn…

There are many ways to commit suicide. Plugging this one doesn't solve the problem, it just moves it.

I suspect that every kid growing up thinks about suicide at one point (or more), but then quickly washes the thought away. It’s not fun to have parents mad at you, girls (and guys) rejecting you, etc.

Some think it will end there. It doesn’t of course, the families now have to carry that on for decades. Perhaps if we parents and other significant adults EXPLAIN THAT end of it to the kids, they’d understand that jumping off a bridge is basically no different (to loving parents) then picking up a gun and shooting those same parents.

But we don’t - we, instead teach them to recycle.
